American Idol - Season 8 - Spoiler Alert!

Well, ladies, what do you think??? Looks like a good season and I feel like I can already see who will be in the top 10....Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert, Jasmine Murray, Lil Rounds

But dang, I was so sad and perplexed by sending home the dude with the sideways cap who was best buddies with Danny Gokey....the one who sang "Hey There Delilah" by the Plain White Ts. I thought he was good - and marketable.

And what's with putting through Norman Gentle/Nick Mitchell - he's funny and all but it is a singing competition!

And Tatiana Del Toro - how annoying and obnoxious is that woman!!

First off... thanks for starting this thread! I never got into AI until the Bo/Carrie season. I've been hooked ever since. This is the first season I've been excited about since the Bo/Carrie season.

I'm with you 110% on the error in judgement by RPSK. What the heck were they thinking when they let Jamar go??? One of them said he was forgettable. Well he's one of the first ones I remembered from the audition rounds. I was really disappointed.

My favorites right now are Anoop, Jessie, Danny, Ju 'Not and Stephen. Oh, and the 16 yo girl with the dyed red hair. I forget her name.

I love Nick/Norman. He's a clown to be sure but I think there's really a voice in there somewhere.

Tatiana *sigh* Too bad we just can't duct tape her and only let her open her mouth to sing. She'll be this years Vote for the Worst entry for sure.

Looking forward to next week's performances!

Did anyone else notice when Tatiana got the good news, she was just being mildly weird and then looked directly into the camera and ramped it up into a completely hysterical fit? I would really like to slap her silly and can't wait until she gets voted off.

I agree about Jamar -- bad move.

What happened at the final sing off? It looked like the welder guy ( bald, with the mustache, beard) got in, but there was another guy that looked like the one who sang against him, he didn't get in too did he? There was a photo of some guy that looked sort of like him? I was watching Lost and didn't flip back in time to catch the end.

And that Tatiana, she is crazy! It seems like they picked a more diverse group, not only ones that can sing, but ones that will call attention and cause a stir this year. Hopefully they'll get voted off quickly.

The welder and the oil rigger both got through in the last sing-off.

Thanks CJ, I thought that was him, but you never know.

The rocker dude, who's name I can't remember just looks like a star, he has that quality about him. And I hope he wins, he seems pretty good and he's different from the rest, you'll remember him. Most of the girls weren't that exciting yet, no one really stuck out except for Tatiana and it isn't because she's this great singer.

cjs216, my thoughts exactly about Norman in and Gokey's bf out. I was bummed and thought he was very soulful and looked forward to seeing more. I like Norman but we know he is not "the American Idol." What about the guy with the afro that forgot his lyrics, kick him to the curb. Oh well, what is done is done.

I admit that I'm not very good at judging voices......when they talk about being out of pitch sometimes, well, I don't know what they're talking about....but that's the only thing I can think of as to why they are picking certain people over certain other people. I don't understand the guy that forgot the words at the keyboard and stood up and walked off. That was just bad form.

Was Jamar's voice not very good and I just don't know it?

You know there are many times the kids and I will watch, and we'll all think that whoever was singing sounded great or horrible, and the judges say the exact opposite I think hearing something live might sound different.

We have been recording Idol, and fast forwarding because none of us can stand Tatiana.....( I really think the judges were told to keep her or the drama factor!)

It looks like I'm on the same page y'all are.

I'm disappointed that they put "norman" and Stephen Fowler, the guy who forgot the lyrics, through and they did not put through Danny Gokey's friend.

Tatiana - yes she has a nice voice, but she is going to be this season's Sanjaya. There are going to be people who vote to keep her in just because she is SOOOO annoying.

I really like Allison Iraheta (the 16yr old with the very red hair), Danny Gokey (the one who recently lost his wife), Jasmine Murray (another 16 yr old), and Anoop Desai. I also have a soft spot for Michael Sarver, the ruff-neck.

Link to the final 36

I loved Taylor Hicks but his first album was a disaster. However, if this is what the second one is going to be like, it's going to be great.

Taylor was made to sing the blues. Sweet stuff!!!

I am so stoked by the first 3 going through !

Oh, Tatiana...Lots of looks at the monitor to check herself out and huge sadness in her face, but, hmmm, not one tear.

If it's the one I am thinking of, his name is Adam Lambert. He definitely has the looks ~~ cute and great jet black hair, dresses the part. I think he might be the one that was in "Cats" I predict he will be in the final two (along with Gokey).

Yes. Although I think at the end they do bring back 3 of the rejects to top out the final number.

I was really surprised that Michael got in over some of the other contestants. I expected Alexis and Danny though.

I'm liking Alexis more and more. She actually sang that song better last night than on Tuesday and she sang it pretty darn good on Tuesday.

It's a good 3 to have to move on. They all stand out and are different from each other.

SO GLAD Tatiana is off, let hope she doesn't get a wildcard spot.

Top 36 - Group 2

I'm really starting to hate this format. I don't think one performance is enough to judge these kids by. At any rate, I didn't think last night's show was as good as week one of elimination. Song choice people!!!

Jasmine Murray -Love Song. The low notes at the beginning were painful but she more or less pulled it together for an OK performance. 6

Matt Giraud - Viva la Vida. Ugg. His voice was shaking and weak and those high notes were horrid. More pitch problems... the list goes on. He got muted at the very end. 4

Jeanine Vailes - This Love. The minute she walked on stage I thought at least one of the judges would say she had great legs. Turned out they all did. Mega pitch problems and her rhythm wasn't all that great either. YAWN! 4

Nick/Norman - And I Am Telling You. What do we do about Norman? He's only one of two that I could tell you what he sang last night. He's a hoot but I suspect he's sung his last on this year's Idol. 7

Allison Iraheta - Alone. Wow! For a 16 year old, she's certainly got some major vibes. The performance wasn't perfect but I think there were some nerves going on. Still, on a night of mediocrity, she was this episode's stand out. 8.5

Kris Allen - Man In The Mirror. When I heard his song choice, I was immediately turned off. Surprisingly he was quite good and really performed it well. A bit weak at the beginning but 1/2 way through it took off. 7.5

Megan Corkrey - Put Your Records On. *Insert Twilight Zone Music* I guess I must have gotten a different TV station at this point. The person I saw singing was all over the place pitch wise with this. I couldn't stand her version and basically thought the entire performance was terrible. The judges gushed and I guess, because she's a cutie, they will pimp her to the masses. She gets the worst score of the night. 2

Matt Breitzke - If You Can Only See. I give him a B+ for his singing and a D- for song choice. Hey Matt, we really don't care if you like this sucky song. You're suppose to be playing to the audience. Zzzzzzz for interest. I suspect we've seen Matt for the last time. 5

Jesse Langseth - Bette Davis Eyes. A good beginning didn't last and by the end she was whining the song. 7

Kai Kalama - What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted. I really liked this performance. It's a great song and he sang it exceptionally well. Plus he's easy on the eyes. The judges hit him with the kiss of death... Not Current. Well I guess they're right. It actually has a melody you can sing along to. 8

Misha Henson - Drops of Jupiter. I like this girl's voice. 90% of the performance was quite good. She's a bit nervous but I think she can get over that if she gets to stay around. 8

Adam Lambert - Satisfaction. Mostly I liked the arrangement of this but a little less screaming would have been good. With his fan base, he probably could have sung the FreeCreditReport.com song and still made it into the top 12 though. 8

Who I Voted For:
Allison
Kai
Misha
Adam
Kris
Nick/Norman

Who I Want In the Top 3
Allison
Kai
Adam

As always... JMHO!

My son (almost 18) love Norman. He is a hoot. I voted for him and the bald guy.

My fave 3 from last night are:
Allison
Adam
Megan

Everyone else was pale by comparison, in my opinion...but as I said, I have no idea what they're talking about with the pitchy comments; I don't really have an ear for music.

Kai needs a haircut and/or style.
Many, many poor song choices.

Have to agree with Virgo10 with Megan C. who sang "Put Your Records On". As she was singing, I was thinking that the notes and pitch she was striving for were all over the place. And her dress and moves reminded me of a big doll. I was shocked to hear the judges go on and on how great she was. I really think that some contestants they see as really marketable and will try to push through even if they are not that good.

Of the six finalists so far I predict the emo guy and the "heart" singer in the final 5. Do the judges pick the ones for the wildcard? If so my hopes of bringing back Nick/Norman are dashed!!

My guess is that there will be 3 more picked from group 3 next week and then the judges are bringing back some from each group to compete for the last 3 spots in the top 12. Well, that's what I'm thinking anyways....

One of the things I wondered about is how they are going to get the M-F balanced? It seems like in previous years, there were also 6 guys and 6 gals to start it out....or am I remembering that wrong? So far, there are 4 guys and 2 girls in the first 6.....

I'd be thrilled if they let the top 12 singers in without putting gender into the equation. It's a singing contest and the best ones should make the final cut whether it's all girls or all boys or a mix.

they are not concerned with the male/female balance this year ( thank heaven).

The judges will be selecting the 3 wild cards next thursday. They will have selected 12 (?) people from the three groups and they will have the chance to sing on Thursday. We all will know the selections by the end of the show.

Thanks, I didn't know that they were dumping the male/female balance this year. I bet there are more women voters and that they are more likely to vote for men though.

Last night’s show = 2 hours I’d like back in my life. Wow, it was slow and many times painful.

Von Smith – You’re All I Need To Get By. This seems to be the year of generic singers and Von is another one we can add to the list. He’s OK but nothing special and, if I hadn’t written down what he performed last night, I never would have remembered. 5.5

Taylor Vaifanua – If I Can’t have You. Low notes are not her friend but, other than that, it was a pretty good performance. If she makes it through, she’ll need to work on her stage presence. 6

Alex Wagner-Trugman – I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues. Way too corny for my taste and honestly it just wasn’t very good. Another case of what on earth were they thinking? 3

Arianna Afsar – The Winner Takes It All. Painful all the way through. She was all over the place with her tone and rhythm… Just dreadful! 1

Ju ‘not Joyner –Hey There Delilah. Nuts! He’s someone I really liked during the auditions but last night was horrid. The judges were gushing though so who knows? I like this song but he sang it so slowly I was nearly asleep by the end. He was also off key at times which didn’t help. 2

Kristin McNamara – Give Me One Reason. Too much growling and woo’s and the arrangement was awful. Add on to that, this song repeats the same notes over and over so we really don’t know if she can sing or not. 2

Nathaniel Marshall – I Would Do Anything for Love. He doesn’t have the voice or look to pull off a song like that so it was disappointing. Still, up till this point, he was the best so far. Guess that doesn’t say much for the night. 6

Felicia Barton – No One. She had some problems with her voice breaking on the high notes but, other than that, I really like this girl. She seems like the total AI package. 6.5

Scott MacIntyre – Mandolin Rain. Nothing but good things to say about his performance. Loved the song, his voice and his stage presence. Go Scott!! 9
Kendall Beard – This One’s For the Girls. Generic country. She’s got an OK voice but there’s just nothing special. 5

Jorge Nunez – Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me. The only thing I couldn’t wrap my brain around was that this Spanish guy was singing an Elton John song. Pretty good voice though but he just doesn’t strike me as an AI type. 7.5

Lil Rounds – Be Without You. I hated the song but there’s no denying she can sing. BTW, her butt is huge! 7

Simonism of the night: You’re like a hamster trying to be a tiger.

Best contestant quote: Jorge Nunez. When I get emotional, I can’t think in English.

Who I voted for:
Scott
Jorge
Felicia
Lil

Who I hope gets in:
Scott
Felicia
???

As always, JMHO!

I would like to see Lil, Felicia, and Scott move on to the next round, possibly Jorge Nunez although he looks very odd to me when he sings.

So what did y'all think about last night? Tatiana is truly a piece of work....it scared me for awhile that they would pass her on just for the "Sanjaya" factor....

The judges definitely seemed to be determined to add some commercial appeal and popularity to the contest.

I was so mad that Megan got in. Simon certainly has his eye on her. It couldn't have been more obvious that she was destined to be in the top 12... or 13 as things turned out. I knew she'd be called back and was disgusted but not surprised when they put her through.

I would rather have seen Von, Ricky or Tatiana than this chick.

Quite a few negative comments about her on the FORT board.....Simon's overt love of her regardless of her voice is the subject of some anger.

The fact that she can't dance and has that silly jiggle would be enough to send her out the door if she didn't look like a blonde Barbie. I guess that giant tattoo makes her look "current" and heaven knows that is Simon's speciality

I wasn't all that impressed with last night's offering. And what the heck was with the opening? An announcer for the announcer?

Lil: The Way You Make Me Feel. I really liked this from her. Unlike Simon, I thought she looked beautiful Great performance. 9.5

Scott: Keep the Faith. I wasn't sure where this song was suppose to go having never heard it before. I do like him more singing and playing the piano. 6.5

Danny: PYT. I found this a bit too frantic especially at the end. He was also struggling with the higher notes. When a song has more screaming than singing, I'm not giving a good score. 5

Michael: You're Not Alone. I thought he did a really good job with this. He has a very pleasant voice but I'm not sure his generic look will go over with the kiddies.
8

Jasmine: I'll Be There. Sorry but I just find her boring. I will say that I absolutely loved the dress she was wearing. She's about the same age as Allison but they are light years apart in how they handle the stage. 5.5

Kris: Remember The Time. Ugg... train wreck. This was a scream fest and he's about as interesting to watch as a hair cut. 2

Allison: Give It To me. Holy smokes this girl is hot! I still can't wrap my brain around the fact she is only 16. Not the best singer in the lot but one with the most soul. 10

Anoop: Beat It: Sorry Anoop but you can't improve on perfection. This song was bigger than he was and it seemed like he kept losing his breath. 5.5

Jorge: Never Can Say Goodbye: This was all over the place. Some really good parts and then it would go down the drain. 6.5

Megan: Where's the up chuck smilie when you need one. First of all, Rockin Robin may have been done by MJ but this song came out in the 50's. The only good thing about her performance was that even Simon didn't like it. 1.

Adam: Black or White. A very cool rendition of that song. The end was a bit too screamy but the rest of it was fantastic. 9.5

Matt: Human Nature. This was a bad song choice and he was not doing a great job singing it. He reminded me of my cats when they get their tail stepped on. The judges are gushing though. 3

Alexis: Dirty Diana. I liked this OK last night but liked it a whole lot more when I listed to it again today. I'm sure every guy who watches AI is voting for her. She's a cutie! 8.5.

Who I want to stay:
Adam
Allison
Jorge
Alexis
Lil

Who I want to go:
Megan!

Who I think will go:
Michael
Matt

As always, JMHO!

Well, Megan Corkrey is Vote For The Worst's (Vote for the Worst) choice....so she'll hang around for awhile, I guess. The "caw caw" at the end of her Rockin' Robin performance was absolutely ridiculous. I dunno, seems like if she lost, Simon could hook up with her quicker.

There's a few in my mind that are clearly in a different class then the others....Adam, Lil, Allison....

Honestly - can Adam NOT win? I think it will come down to Adam, Danny, and Allison.

I really wish that they hadn't saved whats-his-name (all I can think is Justin Timberlake at the moment ) - I thought his song was good, but week over week, he hasn't been great and he really doesn't seem very nice, doesn't cheer the rest on, gets a nasty look on his face when he gets negative feedback.

Adam is the runaway....but you never know. Oftentimes the best one doesn't win.

I agree about Matt - he just is not a good as he was in the beginning - I wish they had saved that "save" - what if for, some ungodly reason, a really good contestant doesn't get the votes?

He must be a really nice guy - the other contestants really wanted him saved - if it were me, I'd be glad another one had left. Next week with 2 going...it's got to be scary for them.

Stupid for them to use the save on him. Because they used it now 2 have to go and its always possible a good one may not go on now because of that. I know simon didn't want to use the save as he said don't get to excited its disco next week. I can't stand matt and i hope he goes next week. GO ADAM GO!! he is our next american idol.

I can't believe the judges used the save last night!! What a waste. I was hoping, too, it would have been Lil' that went last night anyway. She absolutely butchered the Rose the night before.

The only reason I can think the save was used last night was to shake things up a bit. This will only make people watch more and call in more. It's all about the ratings.

I still think Adam will win. I'd be happy with either Adam or Allison. Either way, they'll both get a record deal out of it. I could watch Adam and Allison the entire time. Just vote the rest of them off NOW and we'll have an Adam and Allison show!!! LOL!

Really was a waste of the save....should have saved it for a later point when one of the truly good gets voted off.....or just play the game the way it was intended and don't use it at all.

From what I read, next week would have been the last week to use the save, so I guess that they did not want to look like they were using it right before it expired (for next years sake anyway). SO, I think it didn't matter who was the bottom performer, they were going to use it anyway.

I really don't like it because now two are leaving next week. Did it really make a difference?

I think using the save might have been planned. Ratings, publicity for this round, etc... They should have used it for Alexis awhile back! I also think the top three should be Danny, Adam and Allison.

They might as well give Adam the title and end the season. The Vegas odds for him to win are even. That means you would only get your money back if you bet on him. Gokey is nearly a 3-1 favorite. The rest are longshots and there aren't any odds for Anoop. They estimated that Adam is getting around 60% of the votes of the 7 contestants with 12-15 million votes from the gay community. With the gay and female votes, he's going to win by the biggest landslide in Idol history. The producers and judges are pushing for Adam too. The other 6 have no chance of winning. Only second place is up for grabs, so vote for who you want to finish second. I never vote on any of the shows. Idol is more biased because they allow unlimited votes. They should limit the numbers to give others a bit of a chance. AT&T doesn't want that, and Idol prides themselves in saying that they had 36 million votes or how many they had that week, but don't say how many voted hundreds or thousands of times. I saw one post where one gay male voted 6000 times for Adam. The numbers for all time zones are on the internet, so people could vote for a long time. The show isn't shown in Hawaii until a few hours after it's shown on the west coast.

I have read a few things here and there that suggest that it's a better bet NOT to win AI, but come close. I think that the winner ends up with all kinds of contractual obligations whereas the runners-up can do what they please.....anyone know how that works? It does seem like some of the runners up have made it bigger than the winners (Daughtry, for example).

Yes that is true, The winner has a contract in which they have to do the music genre of their choice not the winners choice, They have to fulfill that contract for 1 year. Most the time it is the music they would be good at so i don't think that is a big problem. There is other stipulations as well. First and second place always do well.
