Taser deaths

This is a spinoff from another thread.
There have been 384 Taser deaths according to Amnesty International.
USA: Amnesty International Questions Taser Safety As Death Toll Hits 334
Few had underlying medical conditions. One man suffering an epelectic seizure was tazed to death for failing to follow orders. Another driving erratically also failed to follow orders and was tazed to death. He was suffering from a diabetic coma.

We have had 5 deaths by tazer since the beginning of this year.
Derrick Jones, 17: Service slated for teen - Martinsville Bulletin
Garrett Jones, 45: Recordnet.com: Man dies in sheriff's tussle
Roger Redden, 52: 1/26/2009 - Man Who Was Tased At Soddy-Daisy Dies - Breaking News - Chattanoogan.com
Rodolfo Lepe, 31: Bakersfield man dies after fighting police - Latest news | Bakersfield.com - Kern County news, events, shopping & search
Unknown mail, early 20s: Man dies in custody after being Tased by San Jose police - San Jose Mercury News

One possible explanation may be that these tasers emit higher voltages than they are described. Also, most officers have been told that tazers won't cause permanent harm.

I don't put a lot of stock in Amnesty International....
Also, the five you listed? They are still being investigated and the autopsy and toxicology report haven't been released. Let's talk when those reports are back.

LOL about A.I. and facts.

I just picked a random name from your list and googled it, and if you are saying that Keith Kallstrom, 56, Milan, Michigan, was tased to death, you are misrepresenting the incident.

Quote:
Seattle police officers shot and killed a knife-wielding man early Wednesday after twice trying to subdue him with a Taser.

Police spokesman Jeff Kappel said officers were sent to Seal's Motel, 12035 Aurora Ave. N., at 1:16 a.m. after dispatchers received a 911 call.

Although no one spoke on the line, operators could hear arguing in the background between a man and woman.

Officers at the scene heard a woman's screams for help coming from a motel room, Kappel said.

The man inside the room refused to let the officers in. When the woman continued to scream, the officers tried to force their way inside.

In response, the man sprayed the officers with what Kappel described as a chemical irritant.

The officers backed away and heard the woman screaming that the man had a knife. Police then broke open a window to the motel room and saw the man with a knife, Kappel said.

Police ordered the man to drop the knife, but he refused. One of the officers then shot the man with a Taser through the broken window.

But the device, which fires two darts on the ends of wires carrying an electric charge of 50,000 volts, did not disable the man.

Officers finally forced open the door, Kappel said, and again ordered the man to drop the knife.

When he did not, they shot him again with the Taser. Still, the device did not stop the man, who this time allegedly advanced on the officers, still holding the knife.

That was when several officers fired their guns at the man, who died at the scene.
Police fatally shoot knife-wielding man

Please check the others on your list for accuracy.

Seriously - that Amnesty International would assert that his death was due to the taser is asinine and beyond the pale.

I just picked another one of these, randomly, and googled it: Barron Harvey Davis

No taser to blame here, either. Pryor Daily Times - Mayes County inmate death ruled accidental

Quote:
The death of an inmate who was in the custody of the Mayes County Jail was due to a lethal combination of drugs, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Barron Harvey Davis, 44, Locust Grove, died

Feb. 27 from acute drug toxicity from the combination of a painkiller, morphine; an anti-anxiety drug, alprazolam and a muscle relaxer, cyclobenzaprine. The manner of death was declared an accident.

Davis was brought to the jail after he shot at Locust Grove Officer Johnny Ragsdale with an SK rifle. After a short standoff, Davis gave himself up and was taken into custody.

When Davis arrived at the jail, he began being combative. Sheriff Frank Cantey said a “grappling” match between Davis and officers began before a taser device was used to get him under control.

And then there's this guy: James Barnes, Omaha, NE

Quote:
OMAHA (AP) -- A grand jury has deemed that Omaha police did nothing wrong in trying to arrest a man who died after leaping through a window.

Authorities have said 21-year-old James Barnes jumped through a closed window in August to avoid police, who were trying to serve him with an arrest warrant.

This why when the police say "Stop -put your hands up" You stop and put your hands up.

None of these say - while quietly sitting in church the police broke down the door and tased them to death

Exactly, couponconnie!! Where is the "outrage" due to the deaths of the OFFICERS that are protecting all of us?? My sympathy/empathy lies with the fallen ones that were trying to do their JOB and not the criminals that were breaking the law. There was mention that 5 people have died this year because of the taser. Well, guess what, the country has lost 12 officers while in the line of duty since the beginning of the year.

Honoring Officers Killed in the Year 2009

They are the ones that we need to be concerned about and the reasons surronding their deaths........
