Yikes! A mouse!!!!

My first mouse in my house. It's freaking me out!!!!! I went out to get some mouse traps but he doesn't seemed interested in them. However, there was an empty sunkist pop can on the floor that he kept going to. So my son put the trap right next to the pop can and that darn mouse went to the pop can and started pulling it away from the trap!! Smart little critter. Anyone got any good ideas? I'm going to go out and get every type of trap out there tomorrow. My son kind of liked watching it. lol I wanted to hit it with a baseball bat (don't call PETA) but my son said the mouse would be too fast. So we are hoping the traps work. First my eye problem, now a mouse...can't wait for tomorrow! lol (It's all nothing though compared to that plane crash. )

what food did you put in the trap? Peanut butter is good at getting their attention.

keep in mind that a mouse usually doesn't live alone.....they like to bring their families.

Yikes! I Hate mice. The last time we had them we lived in a tiny little guest house behind the main house and my husband worked graveyard. I lay in bed at night listening to them scurry around and it freaked me out.

Put out baby powder where they go that way you can follow it back to the hole they come in through. It's very important to block where they are coming in otherwise you can kill them all you want others will come.

And it's not mean to kill mice. If you let them go outside they will be eaten in no time if you kill them it's more humane. And if you came into their lair they would all get together and do something not nice to you.

Why not get a big trap, like the ones that they use to catch moles in? That way, just put the pop can in the back and the when the mouse goes in, the lid will close on him.

We've had the best luck with the regular old-fashioned mouse traps baited with peanut butter.

We had a HUGE problem with mice when we first moved into this house. It had been vacant for several months before we moved in, and on the first night we spent here I went into the kitchen to get a drink only to see one running across the floor. I almost had a heart attack.. and I screamed so loud that I'm pretty sure dh almost had one too. What FINALLY worked for us was the bait boxes. They have something that looks like gerbil food in them and the mice eat it. Then when they go to get a drink of something.. it reacts with the bait and causes them to die. We never had one die in the house either. It's like the bait makes them super thirsty and they go outside to get a drink and wind up dying out there.

They are really fast.. I don't think I could have gotten one with a baseball bat, and I probably would have destroyed anything in my path too.

Oh, I forgot about those. DeCon, I believe is what they are. We used to use those, but DH got worried about using them because of the dog, even though we always used to put them on top of the heat vents in the basement so animals couldn't get to them (except for the mice, LOL). The poison has something that doesn't allow the dead animal to smell. But, now I don't know what happens to the body. Maybe it does make them want to get out to get a drink, because I don't think we ever found a dead mouse. But as I recall, they did work very well.

I LOVE my cat. .. and the neighbors cats as well! When we first moved here we would get little field mice in the basement. I learned that I just couldn't store any food down there. But we haven't had any problems since we've had the cat. My Mom has had problems with brown rats :shudder:. She used DeCon, and that ended up being the best solution for her. I think they will take it back to their nest too, which helps take care of their "friends."

had some mice in the house as a kid, mom put out bait and the little mouse ate some then walked out under the archway from the kitchen into the living room where it died. mom said it went there to stare at her to remind her what she'd done. She felt horrible after that but we didnt have the problem after that once.

We have an awesome cat. His one and only flaw though is that he likes to play with mice.. not eat them. I found him in the living room batting one around and chasing it, but he'd never kill it. I waited until he cornered it and then I trapped it under a cup.. later dh released it outside.

I worked at KFC many years ago and we had mice--BAD. I hated going to work at that store. It was a brand new store but they had just starting building in the field across from us so the mice came to live at the KFC. The exterminator brought glue traps. It works but I don't really recommend it if you have a weak stomach. Every morning I would wait on my cook to show up before I would go in because there was always one stuck on a trap and crying--YUCK. But if you really want to get rid of it these really do work. They run right on them and get stuck.

Be careful if you use the poison. We had a mouse/mice? once and we used that. Apparently our cat either got into the poison, or ate a tainted mouse. He was so sick. Thankfully we were able to find the cause and treat him.

Thats exactly how we got rid of ours. We also had the 25 pound cat that wacked them around but didnt kill them. They never died inside.

I have 3 mousers I could rent out!!! And of course Momma has to come with them for supervision. I could use a field trip for "investigation" purposes.

The bait and traps are fine for getting rid of them. However, you need to find where they're getting in. When you find the hole or uneven spot that allows the mouse to squeeze in stuff it with steelwool. You know, the pot scrubber kind. Mice cannot chew through steelwool. At our first house there was a spot in the backwall where the dishwasher was and another uneven spot between the foundation and wall in a bedroom closet. Stuffed the spots with steelwool and that was the end of our mouse problem.
