I am so sorry. I know in these economic times, many are losing their jobs, and I do think that someday it's a possibility for us too. My husband works in the aviation field, which is a very cyclable business. Again, so sorry and I hope that he finds a good job soon.

Ya know, I have been there more than once and it has always worked out! Actually, better doors have opened. I am a teacher now, so I have way more job security than I did then, but I always landed on my feet and I am sure you will, too. I just tried real hard to keep the faith. The more I go through, the more I realize that it is never as bad as it seems. I know it is hard to believe that right now, but try. I will keep you in my thoughts and I know you will be fine.

Please keep us posted, cubmom2. It's a tough time, and I think there will be more and more of us in this together. Keeping your family in my prayers.

My sweetie was laid off about 4 months ago and he is starting back at an old job as extra board this week. It is only 20 hrs a week to start but he will still receive partial unemployment benefits. I look at it as a foot in the door.
We did have to cut back on several things but we were up to the challenge and in it together. So dry your eyes and let him know that together you will make it work.
I really believe that a door doesn't close but that another opens.
Wishing you luck.

So sorry this has happened to your family-almost beginning to wonder if anyone is "safe" anymore...Did you see it coming at all? Glad your DH was proactive and is already looking. Will keep my fingers crossed for you all.

Not long at all. If he was just laid off yesterday and he's already put in two applications today that are promising, he'll find something quickly. It's the ones that lie around and won't look for a job that have the most trouble finding one. I'm sorry you're going through this and I know it's hard not to be discouraged but I think you'll be fine - I do!

We sorta saw it coming...his boss told him 6 months ago he MAY have to lay him off, because work was slow in coming...but that never happened. This time he was ready to leave work for the day and he was called in his boss's office and let go..He and one other worker.

I am sorta glad, his office was very small ( only about 10 people ) and I always felt it was run on a shoe string.

Thanks again for your help. It does help me a lot !

Cubmom,
I really am sorry to hear about this. Lean on God and He will see you through this. After the attacks of 9-11 my husband was in and out of 3 jobs in 2 years. It was awful but his faith grew stronger. God was pretty much all that we had at that point. After 2 years he was given the chance to come back to the Army and since then everything has really worked out. God knew and had a plan for us and the job that he was in was not the one. He never would have left it if he had not beeen forced out. Take care and know that you and your family are being thought of.
Take care
Robin

You will be in our thoughts! I don't believe anyone is "sale" anymore. I know many people who have been laid off only to find better jobs

Men usually find it very difficult to be out of work. They want to take care of the family, So I would try not to cry in front of him.
Try to encourage him all you can.

Come here instead.

I hope he finds work soon.
Sending a big hug,

Shirley

I agree with ILOVEMYCHURCH, put your faith in God. He has always come thru for me when I have needed money.
DH just got a letter from SS saying that they had been overpaying him and would take $800 out of his SS check in May to make up for it! That's a big part of our income so we knew it would really hurt us.
DH won $288 in a raffle last week and this week worked a couple of days and will get a check for $500+ next week. He often works for this company but this is the first time he had to put in so many hours and had to work two days.
Coincidence?
I don't think so!
Hang in and pray and God will not let you down altho it may seem like it for a while. Sometimes God's time table is a little different than ours!

After 22 years, my DH was laid off from his job as a manager for a group of engineers at a nationally known company. We wondered but we really didn't see it coming. We didn't really have any debt, our house is paid off but health insurance hurt us. Cobra was about 1200.00 a month for us with one child. We shopped at Aldi's and as usual, I cut my coupons and watched sales. We actually saved about 20,000 the six months he was off. I should say too, that this happened about 3 1/2 years ago.

Long story short, he was off exactly 6 months. The same week his company payoff and his unemployment benefits ran out, he started at a new job. He doesn't have the fancy title, but the pay is the same. In the meantime, I found a part time job at the library. I've advanced at my job and although I am part time, I make pretty good money. We save and think before we spend, as who knows how long the his current job will last. His company was bought out by a German company so............????

In today's paper, I was reading about the stimulas package. It sounds like with this new package, you would be eligable for some health insurance help and other things.

Do cry. Life has changed. This does not mean it will be a bad thing for you in the long run. It is a scary world out there, and you are in the same boat with a lot of us. Do a google search and read about the stimulas package. Start looking into things. Maybe there is a state or county type job center to help you put a resume together, learn new computer skills, register for jobs -- that sort of thing. Overall keep a positive attitude, eat cheap and get things together.

You CAN do it. Involve the whole family and work together as a team. We are all here with suggestions and ideas for you also!!

A big, big hug,

So Sorry....This is the scariest time but think of all the bad times you have experienced and how you somehow came through and tell yourself you will pull through this together and make you stronger. Don't get me wrong I would be crying too and have done plenty myself due to some circumstances but somehow you just always get through because you have to. Best of Luck!

I am sorry to learn of the loss of your husband's job. My husband has been out of work for 15 months. He was granted unemployment, however that ran out after 26 weeks. Applications are submitted, with little return. We basically live a frugal lifestyle, with him picking up part-time work, until he can secure a full time position. The stress can be unbearable at times, however I believe there is light at the end of the tunnel.

You are not alone, with unemployment at such a high rate. Remain positive, no matter how bleak things look. Things will adventurely turn for the better. Don't forget to use your support network of friends and relatives to help your family through the rough times.

You guys are the greatest ! It is day two...I returned some things to Lowes today and took my son out to lunch and the movies ( $25 for 2 ). I had promised him that and felt it was important to follow thru. My dh is in good spirits surprisingly. He is doing our taxes now and my older ds's fafsa so maybe we can get a big return.

My daughter works at the mall where that was filmed and I would go watch and never laughed so hard at all the retakes. It was very interesting and he seems like a sweetheart. Can't wait to see the finised product!

which mall was it ? I really liked seeing all the stores in the background LOL.

I felt down today, yesterday I got my elec. bill, it was SKY high..Jan was a very cold month. I was feeling very down but then I see these notes of encouragment and I feel better. Thank you all. I also said my prayer to God as I walked my friends dogs this morning ( I am pet sitting )..

Dh put in a 3rd application yesterday...so keep our finger's crossed.

God bless you all...
