The World As We Know It May Soon Change Dramatically

Associated Press | The Register-Guard

washingtonpost.com

They are saying that the "space junk" from the collision of the satellites is going to be around for 10 thousand years and may endanger the space shuttle, the space station, and possibly all of our satellite transmissions.

If this happens, our GPSes, cell phones, tvs, and internet will go blank. You will not be able to do anything that requires information being beamed from a satellite. No debit or credit transactions or even phone calls until the old way is restored.

I hope this doesn't happen I shudder.

But we all know the truth: The irony is that humans will have to live with the knowledge of technology but the inability to use it.

We all also know that someday "we" (the human race) will cause our own demise.

I am just selfish and was hoping none of this would occur in my lifetime.

Yep, we are way too dependant on "tecnology". I don't want it to happen either but wouldn't we sort of deserve it? Can you imagine clerks trying to count out cash from an old time cash register? lol

Nah.

From a religious/faith perspective, I can't go along with this being something we 'know.' When we all go down, it will, IMHO, be at the time of His choosing and not the result of humankind's technological advancements going haywire. That's what lets me sleep at night. Somebody we have no control over is at the wheel, so I just won't worry my pretty little head about things I can't control.

Meh, I worked at Hardee's when I was a teen (about 14 yrs ago) and late at night when it would get slow I did the drive thru, front cash registers and cleaned up to get ready for close. I wore a head set and I took drive thru orders while cleaning. I had worked there long enough that I had the menu prices and tax memorized, so I didn't have to stop just to ring them up. The guy in the back could hear the speaker, so I didn't have to stop to tell him either. When they're food was done, I punched in their order and took their money, we didn't have to type in how much they gave us, we just opened the draw and gave them change, and handed them their food.

Anyway, so I went to McD's the other day and my total came to $3.10, I handed the girl at the window a $5 bill, and said hold on. I was grabbing a dime out of my change thingie. I guess she didn't hear me, because when I tried to hand her the dime she looked totally confused. She said she already typed in $5 and couldn't change it. I had to tell her how much change to give me.

I hope it doesn't happen. I know I grew up without computers, GPS's and Cell phones. But I would really hate to not have them. And I really like TV.
