I don't remember what the boys got. The girls usually receive necklaces with some Catholic symbolism like a particular Saint or a Crucifix. I would think that would be a good gift for a boy maybe a ring or a pendant?

I am a big proponent of planning for the future. I would get a savings bond because any trinket very likely will be put aside or lost at some point. A savings bond can be purchased at 1/2 value and will be there down the road, it will last. dl |

Does he have a nice wallet? For boys, I have given a nice wallet with a cross inside of it a few times. They have always been well received. For girls, I have given a nice cross necklace. Since you're a parent, I would give something he can keep. Maybe a nice watch with engraving on the back? But, he might be too young for that. Does he have a good Bible? |

We get our kids a really nice rosary for First Communion. FC is kind of a "rite of passage" in rosaries for our kids. LOL They graduate from the plastic and less expensive ones to a really nice one that they will hopefully use forever. We've had two girls go through First Communion and our son will have his in a couple of years. peapie |

Do Catholic kids still wear scapulars? Those were a hot fhc gift when I was a kid along with a good bible or missal with name imprinted on cover (bible covers or missal with handles are also an idea), a really cool rosary (do they still make glow in the dark ones?), crosses, and books about the lives of saints. When I was a kid gifts usually came just from fam and God-Parents, it wasn't like a bar/bat mitzvah, just a fam party.

From my parents, all those many years ago , I received a nice rosary, a nice Bible, a fancy cake from my favorite cake making lady (it had a host made out of sugar in the middle!! ) and dinner at a fancy (ish) restaurant. We had folks back to the house for coffee and cake and that's where I made my real haul of the loot!

| My parents have always bought my kids a bond every year for their birthday. And even at 6 or 7 years old, I explained to the kids what those bonds would be worth when they turned 18 or older. The kids look forward to their bond from Nanny and Pop!

We just had an information meeting on first communion tonight. One of the items they suggested was a memory box. I bought one of these for my daughter and she put all of her keepsake items in it. Her candle, cards received, items made on Jesus Day and other items that were given to her that are all well kept in her memory box. You can get these at any Christian Store. Mine was around $18. I will be buying one for my son for his upcoming first communion.
