So is anyone else buying stocks?

We were just going through our accounts today and decided to up the 401K and IRA contributions, there's a 1/2 price sale going on!! We are buying twice as much with our monthly contributions than we were last fall, so it's time to stock up on the stocks!

Is anyone else buying?

If I had the money I would certainly be buying stocks, a second home and some gold. Alas I don't have the money.

This was in our paper today. Looks like some companies are not going to contribute any more.

The steep and continuing decline in the stock market isn’t the only hit to 401(k)s. A growing number of employers are suspending matching contributions to workers’ accounts as the recession drags on.

At least 66 companies, including 7-Eleven, Eddie Bauer, FedEx and the Big Three automakers, have announced plans to change or suspend matching contributions to the 401(k), according to a running tally by the Pension Rights Center.

My DH is still buying Lowe stocks because he works there. This is the time to do it if you can.

We are only investing in the 401k company match. Not buying any other stock.
Be very cautious in the stock you are buying..alot of companies might not be around at the end of the year.

We are trying to stay very cash liquid. Having cash ready at hand in case of layoffs or other emergiences.
We are still buying some precious metals... gold, silver, etc.

This is more like our approach.

We are still contributing to all our investments - 401(k), stocks, 529 plans, etc. It sucks watching them go down right now, but they'll be back eventually. We've got time.

We're maxing out our 401ks and IRAs by investing in mutual funds. I'll only buy through mutual funds, not individual stocks -- right now and in the future. That's too risky for me. (I've owned stock in the company I worked for before and I've never lost money, but I've never made much either. )

Now is the time to buy. The stock market is truly on sale. I'm all about getting a bargain.

I'm with Anna, if I had any extra money I'd buy stock. Great time to do it!

Hubby did increase his company stock purchase option and 401k. We have 4 more years till his retirement. I sure hope everything bounces back by then.
