Communication - spelling

Here is an interesting spelling test to take online:

The 25 Most Commonly Misspelled Words

I didn't do quite as well as I thought I would. I'm going to retake it in a couple of days and see if I do better.

Yeeks!

I'm not even going to take that test! lol!

I spell well orally, and usually when I write things out I spell them correctly, but when given choices like that I end up confused. If you were here in the room with me and said the words aloud and expected me to spell them out loud or on a blank piece of lined paper, I'd probably ace it.... but boy does it throw me to see all those 'almost correct' spellings mixed in with the correct ones!

I have a heck of a time typing and often have to edit posts due to spelling problems. I use three different keyboards, one of them on a very small netbook, one on our full-sized laptop that has a replacement keypad installed (and it's inferior by far to the original - the amount of pressure it takes to type a letter varies from key to key), and one on our desktop, which is 'okay'. Moving from keyboard to keyboard really messes with my end product! lol

I only got 11 right and I used to be a great speller.
Another thing that goes with age, I guess!!!

When I was younger. I always had a problem spelling the word friend. So I decided to make it easier and use association to help me. So now I always say I am a friend to the end . Hence I always remember how to spell it. Peace. Catherine

I got 20 correct and some of those words are the words I always have trouble with! For the most part, I can't spell orally. If my kids ask me how to spell a word, I have to write it down first.

And I agree with you jm, I used to be a much better speller than I am now.

Same here. I got 25/27, but it was because I had the words in front of me and I have a good eye for what looks wrong, or funny. If I was asked to just spell the words, many of them would have been WRONG!!! LOL

Average... 14. I won the county spelling bee when I was in 8th grade. I guess we DO lose it with age!

17/27 "Fair"

But I think I subscribe to wowitsdark's theory - I'm pretty sure I'd have been better had I not been looking at a sea of "almost correct" words each time.

Glad I don't find the occasion to spell supersede too frequently...

I was a spelling bee winner for my school in the 6th grade. I got a 14 on the test. I thought I would do a little better than that.

I think that part of the reason my spelling isn't as good as it could be is because so many businesses and products don't necessarily spell things correctly. I'm trying to thing of examples. Ketchup became an excepted word but the real word is catsup. That's not a great example though.

Ok. Here's one: Bar-B-que I can't think of any more right now. I did work as a directory assistance operator for a year or so many years ago. Looking up businesses with clever spelling did not help my spelling.

Gee, I actually got 27 out of 27.

I don't know why I remembered that the preferred British spelling in the last two questions includes the "e".
