Too much time on my hands...

...and just curious.
When I was in school I had an assignment to write about my favorite Christmas gifts.
The purpose, for the teacher, was to define the students.
I wrote about the foot fixer (foot bath) and first pair of Nike sneakers my dh gave me.
Cuz the way I wrote about the gifts, the teacher labeled me as a *sensualist* - a person who is driven by feelings, senses.
I didn't disagree at the time, and even now can see some validity in that.
But tonight I was thinking about all my senses and realized that one sense I would HATE! to lose would be my sense of smell. I wouldn't like it if I became blind, deaf, dumb, our unable to to physically feel things. But if I lost my sense of smell I think I would have the hardest time of all.
2 times in the past 24 hrs. dh (who's sense of smell is laughable) has asked if I smelled things that woulda normally alarmed me, and I did not smell those things (skunk & something burning). It was at that point when I realized I had a cold that was interfering with my schnozz, and it bothered me more than if I hadn't been able to see or hear something. We've had a cold virus running through the house recently, but I didn't think I had gotten the bug until today.
So my questiuon is: which one of the 5 senses would you least like to live w/out?

Taste. I LOVE to eat and I think I would starve to death if i could not taste anything.

going blind scares the crap out of me. I was legally blind in both eyes prior to my lasic surgery about 5 years ago. I couldn't get contacts I could see well enough out of and if I wore glasses, I couldn't drive or really do anything because I only had this small round space right in front of my eyes where I could see and everything else was a complete blur. It made me sick. I would get scared that someone would hurt me and I wouldn't be able to identify them. I still wear contacts as lasic can really only do so much because my corneas where thin to begin with. But I tell you, just being that close to being totally blind was scary. I am also a HUGE reader but I don't have fingertip sensitivity much so braille would be almost impossible. I think I could go without hearing because I could read words on paper or read lips. A lot of emotion is in your face...not just your words. Smell would be hard to go without but nothing compares to my sight

I have several friends w/MS who have had diminished sight, so I can understand those fears. Have also had diminished sight in the past few years (mostly age related). I don't like that my eyesight isn't what it used to be, it's scary. I usually hafta bring one of my kids shopping w/me in case I can't read stuff on products w/readers.
I figure I can hear books on tape if I go blind or can write or type if I lose my ability to speak. If I lose my ability to hear, hopefully I would still have the ability to read.
And I can only hope that if I lose my ability to physically feel stuff some fam members will help me out.
Of course, in my case, this has to do with aging, period.
It's weird to think of this stuff.
