...concerning ACORN's "civil disobedience" campaign.
They call what they are doing homesteading. After a cursory web search to find out about homesteading, I still don't know if it's legal or not, or only legal in some places, and exactly what is involved if one wants to take advantage of any homesteading opportunity.
The way I understand ACORN's use of the term *homesteading* is in the old fashioned sense when the country was still growing and trying to encourage populations in undeveloped areas. Back in the olden days I know folks had to pay for their homestead before they could claim it, I don't think you could make monthly payments (as in a mortgage) , could you? It appears to me that ACORN's view is folks already have paid because they made mortgage payments until they couldn't do so any longer.
I know that the term homesteading is used in some places where you can protect your home from being taken as an asset to settle a lawsuit, and there's a process you need to go through, but that's not at all what ACORN is referring to.
What ACORN is doing is squatting, isn't it?
Anybody out there know if there are still places in the U.S. to homestead?
