Thumbs down Sinus Headache From You Know Where.

Any suggestions for these things. We are having warm, dry and windy weather and I'm sure the pollen is flying around like crazy. I use a generic type of Flonase which has helped in the past but not now. I can't take many of the sinus meds because of a heart problem. I don't think I have an infection.

Mid to late afternoons are the worst... like right now! Usually by sunset the pain is greatly diminished.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have one word for you...STEAM baby, steam. DH bought me one of those facial steamers for Christmas a few years ago. The only time I put my face in it is when I have a sinus headache. It feels soooooo good. If you don't happen to have one of these on hand, just boil and pot of water and put your face over the pot...just be careful! Also, I've taken one of those Goody Orange Powder packets. I get relief in about ten minutes. Feel better... ~Lisa

I have a aromatherapy wrap that you heat in the microwave. It works great at helping to ease the pain with a sinus headache. You could use a warm washcloth or heating pad also. Heat does help. Good luck, hope you feel better...

I suffer quite often from sinus type headaches. I get the best relief from taking Tylenol or Ibuprofen and laying on the sofa with a moist heating pad on my whole face. The combo will help me alot. If I don't get relief, I wait a couple hrs and take one-half of a darvacet. If I take a whole one it really zonks me out.

Advanced Allergy Therapeutics. See if this is available where you live. I did this last year because I was using nose sprays like Flonase and others and I had a horrible bloody nose that sent me to the ER. I couldn't use the sprays anymore because it was causing my membranes in my nose to thin. SO I went to my Chiroprator who specialized in AAT and it has done wonders. No more allergies and no more sinus infections. It is non evasive.

Good Luck.

I just used heat in the form of one of those hot/cold packs that have the little beads in them. I microwaved it for 2 minutes (per the directions) and put it over my forehead and nose area. It got pretty hot so I used a face cloth between the pack and my skin.

Well even after only about 5 minutes, I can feel the difference. If this headache was a 10, it's now down to a 5 or 6. At least I can think clearly again!

I do the pot of boiling water (turn the burner off and take the pot off of the stove) with a towel over my head. Breathe deeply in and out through the nose for about 5-10 minutes. Also, nice for the complexion.

I hope you feel better soon.

Edited to add that I put salt in the water.

sometimes heat works, sometimes ice works.
If I ice, I put an ice pack at the base of my skull, and one on the area of my head that hurts.

I live in Iowa and I'm miserable. I don't think it's a virus but I don't know what's in the air here. My mom said she's feeling weird too. Sneezing, my checks feel full, etc.... Neither one of us feels like it's a virus-something to do with the weather. It's all foggy here so we sure don't need humidity.
