Today was my big shopping day for the month. I brought my camera but really didn't think I'd bother stopping to take pictures. My back will only hold up for so long so, when I go shopping like this, it's like a military maneuver.
When I got to the lake, I was surprised to see that the pelicans had returned. Usually we have quite a few from January on. This year, for whatever reason, I've only seen a couple before today. So I stopped the car and got out to take some pictures.
Then I started to notice what was really going on. Overhead were at least 10 Ospreys! I've never seen so many at one time. Apparently the fish in the lake had come in close to the shore and every couple of minutes an Osprey would go in to a suicide dive and come up with a fish. Some of the fish were at least 18 inches long!!
Here's an Osprey who had just taken a dive in to the water.
One flying in for brunch.
And another over head.
Besides the Ospreys and pelicans, there were lots of Coots, seagulls and many, many cormorants.
Watching an Osprey catch fish is amazing and something I hope everyone gets to see in their lifetime.
