| UGH - "Friend" on Facebook
I have a very small circle of friends on Facebook, many of whom I have known my whole life. One of those friends sent me a message a week or so ago asking how messages work, whether they're posted to walls, or private, etc. He's new to facebook, he said. So I explained it to him. Fast forward to this week. I updated my status with a note about my kids surviving while my husband's out of town. Then tonight I got a message from him about "while I'm waiting on my DH" with a link to "his" website. A lovely porn website. I am so icked out! I mean, we grew up together. We know each other's families. I'm not sure whether to confront him, just delete him as a friend, ignore him or what. What would you do? UGH! Renee |

since your friends tell him your thoughts about those type sites, that you didnt find it funny and that you could have had your kids standing there. if it happened again then yeah delete him.

I would ask him not to send something like that again and give him one chance. My BIL used to send stuff like that when he was in the military. I'm not sure what the deal was, but when he'd send an email, there would be links to that stuff and I mean really really nasty stuff. I let him know I didn't appreciate it and he made it stop and hasn't sent them since. Since he thinks it's cute or funny, he may think you do, too. Lisa

theres a thing to if you get this app not sure how, you send notices to everyone you know that you reported them for tos violations. Friend sent one last night to people she knew and was about in tears over the nasty mail she got when she didnt actually do it.

Sounds like he was just trying to be funny. Just send an email saying "EWWW! Yuck, I don't want to see that!!" You said you have a small circle of friends so I assume they are all good friends. Seems kind of harsh to unfriend someone just because of an inappropriate joke.

The issue is---is this a mistake, a virus, something he did not intend to send and it just hacked his account and sent you this site? If that is what happened, then it has happened to many many people and it is an accident, there are lots of these viruses on facebook. OR---is this a deliberately written suggestive comment? You have to ask if you want to know for sure. My dd dated a "lovely" young man, pillar in the community, varsity everything, leader in his church, who was sending naked pictures of himself to underage girls he would meet on facebook and myspace. He also tried sending them to his "friends " in the community who mostly just said "eww" or they laughed and started sending pictures back. We found out about all this (long story) and she gave him the boot (and no he never sent her any pictures).

Thanks for all of your input everyone. Unfortunately, I know his account was not hacked because it mentions my DH by name and in it he uses my nickname, not the name on my profile. I think I'm going to go with tessa on this one, he is a good friend, I'll just call him on it and drop him if it ever happens again. Renee |

My nephew has to be very careful about logging off of his computer after using his Facebook... His roommates will post some pretty lewd things under his name (or so he claims; but it's not really in his character to be lewd so we believe him). I hope that you can work it out and keep the friendship intact -- if that is what you want. |
