Rihanna & Chris Brown

If the reports are true that he beat her up and if the picture of her floating around with the bruised face is evidence of his work and if this report is true -- then I can only wonder what on earth is WRONG with this woman?

Rihanna and Chris Brown are back together, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

The pair have reunited almost three weeks after Brown, 19, allegedly battered the “Umbrella” singer on Feb. 8, a source tells PEOPLE.

“They’re together again. They care for each other,” says the source. The on-again couple are currently spending time together at one of Sean “Diddy” Combs’s homes.

Adds the source: “While Chris is reflective and saddened about what happened, he is really happy to be with the woman he loves.”

In its latest issue, PEOPLE reports that Brown called Rihanna on her 21st birthday one week ago. “He called to wish her happy birthday,” a source told the magazine. “They’ve reached out to each other. It’s been mutual.”

Brown was booked by LAPD for making criminal threats but the case has not yet been presented to the District Attorney, who will ultimately determine which charges, if any, will be prosecuted.

It is the same thing that is wrong with thousands upon thousands of other women who stay in these situations. I certainly don't get it. I suffered abusive physical punishment as a child. I would never tolerate a single episode of it in my adult life.

I can kind of understand the women with kids, no jobs, maybe feel like they have no options but to stay with an abuser. But Rihanna is young, no kids and plenty of money. So why would she go back to him?

If it is found to be true, what a horrible example to girls everywhere.

It's more than awful that she had to go through all that she did, and that the public knows what we know. But in light of that, saying goodbye to him for good was the only option for her best interests-mentally, physically.

Also, it's probably the only way she was going to preserve her image, I think. And, as sick as it is, the fact that R may have taken him back was C's ONLY chance of getting his image back.

Beyond that, I hope girls/women everywhere can look beyond the ending here, and see that they have other options. I can't imagine the hell it must be.

My guess (hope?) is that this is something their handlers have determined is the only way to save his career. Perhaps they will get back together for the media and part ways shortly thereafter. They are very, very young after all. Even before this, the press coverage of the "clinginess" of their relationship had unhealthy written all over it.

Going back to an abusive man to save his career doesn't seem very good for her career. I wonder if she'll lose many fans as a result of this self-destructive behavior.

Of course, all that assumes that he really did what he's accused of doing.

I read that he is in counselling and I'm sure he is getting the best... He is 19 years old. I think that with anger management training, he might be able to change this behavior. How many of us did things in our teens that we regret bigtime??? Anger-related or otherwise?

I do believe that it is much too soon for her to give him another chance. I think that it has only been three weeks? If I was her, I'd wait until I was sure that he'd had at least 3-6 months of weekly counselling and as her advisor/parent, I'd advise it as well.

I think that cjs might be onto something too...

I was subbing a few weeks ago (before the beating) and Chris Brown was in a DVD video that they showed for the St. Jude's Mathathon that is going on right NOW. I'm wondering if it will effect donations this year being that the kids were soooo excited when he came up on the screen? Of course, the economy and too many fundraisers at the school might also effect donations.

I heard on the radio yesterday that she was not cooperating with the investigation. Who knows. Same song, just another bad verse....

i think she has always gone back, bc i read that this isnt the first time this has happened. I dont understand why some women go back. all i have learned is if they go back then there isnt much you can do for them just be there for them when they need it, until they finally come to their senses and are ready to leave. B/c if you make them leave they will somehow go back. Very sad all the way around.
