Thank you gift for an 8 yo boy.

My son broke his arm 1 month ago. He has been assigned a "helper" at school. His friend has opened his lunch, held the water at restroom time, carried books, etc...
The class has been very helpful to him and kind also..

But his friend was chosen by the teacher to help.

I'm bringing in Thank you cupcakes for the class... but would like to do something special for his friend... who has been his "left" arm

Any suggestions??
and it has to be discreetly given...so it can't be too big.
Under $20 too.

TIA Josie

Do 8 yr old boys still love dinosaurs? Relatively inexpensive and come in everything from little figures to coloring books to legos.

Or something to make or do like put your own flying airplane together? Something to do that he can have fun with.

Very nice of you by the way. Most people on this board are more thoughtful and considerate than the population in general. Yes even those whom I disagree with lol.

I think a gift card would be easy to give too.

I have an 8 year old son and the big things for the kids at our school right now are Bakugan and Webkinz. Check with your son first, but I think either of those would be great. I personally don't like it when my kids get gift cards. If it's to a fast food place, I then have to buy something for my other child, or if it's to a store I am badgered until we can get to that store to use the card. JMTCW.

BTW, I think its a great thing you're getting him something. It's always nice to have your good deeds rewarded.

I think gift card too... the FF would be fine since he could "treat" his family to a meal. A store card would be nice too since the boy can buy just what he wants and associate it with helping your son

I have to agree with Renee - it would be a pain for the parent if there were other children involved. Legos are still really popular with the kids in our after school program at work, but the dinos seem to be in the 5-7 range with our kids. There's a big leap between 7 & 8 (as far as the boys are concerned). 7 is considered still a "baby" and 8 is a "big boy" (I'm just repeating what our after school kids say).

I'd go with legos or something similar. What a nice thing to do! How is your son now?

I'm voting for the McD's gift card. Every kid would love this. Just becareful presenting it to him in front of the whole class. There are whiny parents who will find out and fell that thier kid deserves one too because she or he said "BOO!" to your child. No kidding. Thier are some real idiots out there!

Legos are always a big hit, but I don't know if it could be discreetly given. I have 3 others besides my ds who turns 8 in just a few weeks and wouldn't mind if he got a thank you gift card. I would just appreciate the sender. I think the giftcard to McD's is a perfect gift. My son would LOVE it.

You could offer to take the friend and your DS to a day out. Maybe to the movies, arcade, bowling or to something "special" in your area (we have an Exploration Works "Muesum" which is a hands-on science type muesum). That way, you don't have to worry about being so discrete. You could organize it all "behind" the scenes with the boy's parents. Plus, there's no worries about causing the boy's family any stress w/ having to spend a gift card or what have you.

or another idea would be to actually drop the gift off at his house. As far as gifts at 8 my Son loved Bionicles and Legos and sports(kids always get him a ball of some sort for his B-day).

I wouldn't get a McDonald's or other fast food GC. Why encourage bad eating habits? Maybe his parents avoid it. I know I would be a little irritated if someone gave my kid a fast food GC.

Legos or K'NEX or a fun day out sound more appropriate to me.

A Bakugan - these are such a hit around here. Boys from 6 -11 seem enthralled with them. And they're cheap enough, and really discrete.

That and a really nice thank you note would have my vote.

I personally wouldn't love a gift card to McDonald's. I think more and more families opt away from fast food these days. But no matter what, I think any expression of thank you will be really appreciated.
