How cool is this !! I'm so thrilled for my 12 yo DD

I'm so excited for my DD . She's 12 yo and as some may remember a month or so ago on the thread here I posted she was a total book worm. My DD has been writing short stories since she was in 1st grade, She has had 3 of them published in News Papers, Writing contest and our local Talent Search. Well, She came to me the other night and told me a lady named Shana Burg was coming to her school to promote her debut novel and a book signing.
The name of the book is called
A Thousand Never Evers.
Well today she came running in the house all excited and screaming LOOK MAMA LOOK ! and gave me this card. The card was a invitation to a work shop to talk to young boys and girls about becoming writers and how to get started in writing etc etc.
Out of all the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders only 9- 6th graders, 12- 7th graders and 8- 8th graders were chosen to attend. My DD loves books and has claimed she will become a writer of children books since she was 6 yo's old.
She is FOREVER writing short stories, she is forever asking for this book or that book believe me this child is a walking talking bookshelf LOL.I will never forget 2 years ago all she asked for at Christmas was the complete set of Harry Potter books and a gift card to Books A Million. ( she was only 10 years old ) I'm so excited that she's this excited to met Mrs.Shana Burg. I hope my DD will follow her dreams where ever they may take her as long as she's doing what makes her happy.. Sorry If I seem like a bragger but she was just so excited .Thanks for letting me share this.

That is exciting. You have every right to come on and share the good news. Seems like good news is in short supply everywhere these days. Congratulations to your daughter, and I hope we see her name on the bookstore shelves someday!

That is very exciting. Congratulations to your dd. I am sure, that to a child like her, this is the equivalent to winning the lottery. I hopw someone is able to get photos. Did the teachers select the students?

That is incredibly cool! What a terrific opportunity for her! Wouldn't it be terrific to walk into the library and BAM - there's a book by your daughter on the shelves?

Hey Sunset, I think we might live near each other. Are you in NC?

Wow..congrats to your daughter. Your daughter sounds very much like mine. My daughter just turned 13, and she loves reading novels and writing. For her birthday she got a $50 GC for Borders and purchased three books, which she managed to finish in less than two weeks. She has been working on her second short story. Last summer she attended a young authors camp at a local college. The camp was for grades 4-12. On the last day of the session they picked two students to present their work to the college staff. My daughter was one of the chosen students, along with a Senior in High School. She was bouncing off the wall.
I think we are very lucky to have daughters who have a true love for reading and writing. Hopefully, it will take them far in life...

Thank- You everyone. She was still very excited last night. She kept going in and out of her bedroom I finally told her to go to bed and stay there LOL.She said I can't stop reading this book.. Now thats is one thing I can say about her she doesn't know when to put a book down once she starts reading it.
She has already told me Ok I need a new notebook, a new pen to take notes. I'm like Ok we'll get them but for now go to bed ... Again thank you all for the congrats this I hope will be the start of her following that dream.

Chemo, Yes the Teachers are the ones that selected the students.
I don't think winning the lottery would be this exciting to her right now LOL. well it might as it would mean more books she could buy LOL.

BTDT. My DD has finished books in the same day. When she received the Harry Potter set at Christmas she finished the 7 books in a month. She had already read 6 of the 7 before getting them. she reread them over again. She just can't put a book down once she opens it up.

Oh you bet ! I would love nothing more than to see her name on books. She has always wanted to be a writer and a zoologist. She has claimed this since she was 6 years of age. She has will power to do both I believe she's a smart smart young lady. She has drawing talent as well. When she writes her short stories she always draws pictures to staple to the pages. It's a goal of hers and I hope one day she will follow thru on her dreams.

That is very exciting!

I'll be looking for children's books with a dedication page that reads: "To My Mother, Sunset..." in the near future!

You should be really proud.
