I never used to watch much TV and now...

I've become a reality TV junkie! G's to Gents, I Love Money 2, Tool Academy, For The Love Of Ray J, Rock of Love Bus, Sober House...not to mention that I'm now hooked on The Housewives of NY. It's like I can't get enough of these shows! I've become really attached to some of them like Frank the Entertainer, Buckwild, and the Countess. What is my problem? Other than I guess I need to get a life! LOL... ~Lisa

Sober house has TOO TOO much drama ...Andy Dick plays it up for the cameras I think. The only really sane one is Rodney King. How about the chick they woke up from sleep.." I am not coming off a high, I'm just tired !" ugh...

In contrast to Steven and Seth, Andy comes across as a prince...maybe he is playing it for the camera so that people will really think he is sincere about sobriety THIS time....but the other two along with Mary are all about the Drama ....and so annoying

I was amazed at the appearance of Nikki after seeing her on AI. I didn't know that she had a drinking issue even then. SAD

I'm a reality TV lover too. I watch the "Housewives", Top Chef, America's Next Top Model, Survivor, Amazing Race, Biggest Looser, Top Design, American Idol, Big Brother, The Apprentice, Dirty Jobs, Survivor Man, Man vs Wild, Project Runway, Ghost Hunters & International, Paranormal State, and all the HGTV home improvement and buying shows.

The only "real" TV shows I watch are Lost, Heroes, The Mentalist and Lie to Me.

I watch some of the Bravo shows. What channels are these other ones on? I love Project Runway and Top Chef. Are there any other shows like these out there?

I'm hooked on the Girls Next Door, AI, that show about the hotel in Las Vegas... Rehab at the Hard Rock I think and my favorite that starts up in April... The Deadliest Catch!

"Real" TV shows that I never miss are: House, 24, The Ghost Whisperer, Bones and Prison Break which sadly will be ending with this season.

Ok, help me understand? I can't stand reality shows and I don't know why, I just can't stand them. Although I do like some of the HGTV remodeling shows or the buying/selling of houses shows, but those don't seem quite the same. What exactly is wants to make people want to watch these shows? What is so appealing about them? I have watched a few, like intervention, DH tapes them and shows them to his clients (he's a drug and alcohol counselor) and Dog the Bounty was ok for awhile, then it just got borning, Alot of the others I have seen maybe one time and they just aren't appealing, alot of drama and they seem fake. So what is it that people like about these shows? Help me understand, because I just don't get it. And they stay on tv season after season, so people must watch them. I keep thinking "who watches this stuff? How can this still be on the air? " Like The Bachelor? So can we please discuss this in a "nice" way, because I REALLY want to understand what is so appealling about these shows? I am not trying to be mean or anything, I really want to know why people are attracted to these type shows.

My favorite shows are:Criminal Minds, Brothers & Sisters, The Secret Life of An American Teenager, Ghost Whisperer, Antiques Roadshow, Fox news when there's nothing on.

I don't know about reality shows but yes I also love TV. And it's cozier and cheaper than going out. A PPV movie is either $3.99, $4.99 or $5.99. I don't have to go get it, return it, or worry about late fees. I can record it to watch when I want and keep it to re watch.
I can DVR my shows when I am working and watch them on weekends etc.

I think people watching more TV is partially due to people becoming homebodies to save money and spend more time in the bosom of their family.

We watch some of the reality shows. We watch Survivor as a family. Our other staple is Ghost Hunters. My daughter and dh rarely miss GH. We also have recently started watching Jockeys, on Animal Planet. Its a very interesting show and explains how horse racing really works. My dh was a groom at a race track many years ago when he was a teenager in West Virgina, and his family also owned race horses, so he really enjoys Jockeys.

Penny, try The Deadliest Catch when it comes on in April. You end up really caring about these guys because what's happening is real. I'd love to meet them.

Deadliest Catch : Discovery Channel

Another show I really liked but it got cancelled was Everest: Beyond the Limit. It was about climbing Mt. Everest. The people on it were either very brave or very stupid.

I won't watch "Intervention" or "Sober House" or the like....because it seems that those shows take advantage and exploit people who aren't in their right mind.

The dating shows (especially "Rock of Love") I will watch---I can't believe there are women (and men when applicable) will prostitute themselves and act like complete and utter idiots for a date or to just get time on TV.

Some of the other reality shows (Nanny 911, Wife Swap) I watch to feel better about myself and/or my children!

I loved watching "The Osbornes"! Sharon and Ozzy proved to be pretty normal and extremely loving/devoted to each other. And I loved watch Sharon Osborne's Charm School (featuring the Rock of Love 1 girls). I felt Sharon sincerely wanted to help those girls.

I watched "The Anna Nicole Show" when it was on---out of morbid curiousity. I honestly couldn't believe that her "handlers" would allow the show to air. It was so obvious that Anna Nicole was suffering so much....

The only one I've watched consistently is Bret Michaels' Rock of Love. The woman are just so over the top!

Wink

I watch some of them also, however Intervention I just got plain sick, I cannot and will not watch people who are personally so destructive to themselves and family members who love and care for them, also with intervention , the updates are not long enough for me to hold out hope that they people have turned their lives around, it should be at least one year updates. Also Jon and Kate and the big new house and all the really nice furniture . Also the puppies and plain out and out her voice Kate just goes right through me, can she keep quiet for a second to let someone else speak. There have been so many rumors of them especially Jon of partying and hanging out with young girls, however at this point I do not know what to believe. Rock of Love I love love, wife swap I enjoy also however I feel some of it , is made up a bit too much to truly believe people really live that way. I love the animal planet and I love deadliest catch, sometimes very scary. I really love to watch all the medical shows I find them very educational on all levels and sometimes I feel so sorry like the one whose is the lady her name is Mandie and she is the one who has those huge huge legs and feet, my heart goes out to her, here is a lady who has so many problems and is dealing with them. Jon and Kate need to stop, those children are in front of the camera way too much and someday , they will suffer. My son loves loves the office, however I cannot get into it.. Peace. Catherine
