We have a teenage boy who babysits on ocassion. And when he does, often he brings one of his friends. That, in and of it's self is pretty cool. Our boys love having the older boys who like to play video games, wrestle and rough house as babysitters.

Oldest DS's birthday party was last night. It was a sleepover. Those two teenagers came over, helped chaperone the kids (kept them downstairs and kept them relatively quiet)---and those two teens stayed the night! They are asleep in the spare bedroom right now.

I'm just so impressed that these boys chose to hangout at our house and be positive role models for some 11 and 12 y/o!

Yes, we will pay them but they actually said we didn't have to pay them! They didn't mind helping out.

Thanks for this thread! So many teenagers get such a bad rap these days. There are so many good kids out there. All we usually hear about are the bad stories...drugs, teen pregnancy, violent crimes, etc. I'm so glad to hear about the nice kids who enjoy spending time with the younger kids and being positive role models for them! It is so nice to see a positive post that involves teens. These young men sound like great role models for the young boys! I work at a local high school and sometimes I get so sad when I see/hear all that is happening with our teens. Your post made me smile, and it helped me to remember that not all teens are the same. Sometimes by the end of a long day at work, I wonder if todays teens are taught any manners, and the lack of respect for adults is very hard to deal with on a daily basis.

See, there are some really nice kids out there! I too would be very impressed with them, and would probably tell their parents how great they are.

The good ones far outnumber the bad... Sadly, the bad get the attention. I'd also be sure to let the parents know and be sure to use them over and over again. That will make them feel good knowing that you trust them enough to invite them back.
