It is way too dry in Florida right now. I know there have been numerous brush fires all around us but, up until today, I hadn't seen any sign of them. This morning for the first time we started smelling smoke. Then, this afternoon, there was some smoke that was visible. Both the smell and the smoke in the air was gone by suppertime though so that was good.
The sunset looked like it might be good so I took a trip down to the lake to see what would happen.
Then I looked down the beach to my left and saw this.
My first thought was what kind of idiot would be burning trash in these conditions?? But, no, that can't be right. This fire was right on the shoreline and in between two boat houses. No one could be that dumb.
I got back in my car and parked as close as I dared. By now things were really heating up.
The police were there but no firemen. Some nice folks let me use their property to take pictures.
Finally the fire dept. showed up and they got it under control in short order.
I was amazed at how fast this fire moved. Thank goodness it was next to the lake. And what a miracle it didn't burn either of the boat houses it was between.
Oh, and the sun didn't care at all about what was going on. It set with it's own blaze of glory.
