Do we have anyone here who's on blood thinners and has had to have a tooth removed? I'm calling my cardiologist tomorrow to get an answer on what I need to do. A tooth that's been problematic is becoming really sensitive. I think I may need to have it out.

This will be the first major dental work I've needed since I started taking Coumadin and I'll need to let the dentist know what's going on.

When I was on blood thinners (I just got taken off them again March 5th) they had me stop my coumadin 3 days before any dental work and they had me go on antibiotics before hand. Every Doctor and Dentist has their own spin on things and how they want it done.

Do be sure to check with the cardio doctor and make sure the Dentist is aware of your history.

I had a Pulmonary Embolism in 2006 and I have the lupus anti-coagulant factor, but at this time the hematologist thinks its in my best interest for the long-term to be off coumadin, but we watch my lupus anti-caogulant level every 3 months and I could be put back on it in a heartbeat.
