"If You Seek Amy"

I posted about this on the Kelly Clarkson song thread, but I thought maybe it might need it's own thread.

"If You Seek Amy" is the newest Britney Spears song. This song crawls right up my spine. I don't know if they are playing it on "regular" radio because I have XM, but the message in the song is so thinly veiled I can't believe that they could get away with it on the regular radio.

Listen to the chorus ..... and say the "If You Seek Amy" line fast. Yeah we all know what it's tryin to say....I'm just glad I have no young girls that may idolize her.

Britney Spears is a train wreck and has an insatiable need for attention. It saddens me that there are young girls out there that look up to someone like Britney. She's trying to stage a comeback through shock value instead of talent and not worth admiring.

I have only three words to say. OH. My. Goodness. I downloaded it just to see what the fuss was about (I heard this on the news last night). I absolutely, positively cannot believe this is playing on our local radio station. Wow.

EDITED: Crud, now I can't get it out of my head. I'm singing it over and over and over in my head. Jeez.

I have to put in my 2 cents. She may have given birth twice, but she's no mother. She's more of a... What's the female equivalent of sperm donor???
Egg donor+incubator? Whatever, that's what she is. But she's not a mother.

I agree that her "comeback" is based on shock value and not talent.

However, I don't agree that she's a train wreck. I believe she was a train wreck and was either manipulated or drugged (depending on which tabloid you read and believe) to behave the way she did. Now, I think her parents have stepped in and either got her off of drugs, or got her on the right psych drugs, and are finally providing the discipline and structure they never did before. Could they be doing it because they say their money train running off the tracks? Yep, probably so. When Jamie Lynn up and got pregnant, her money train slowed to a stop--and there wasn't anything the parents could do to "fix" that without looking really bad. They could, however, rein in Brit so that they could continue to live the life which they had grown accustomed to. So, whether her parents acted out of greed or concern is a question. I really feel sympathy for Britney and Jamie Lynn.

I think that all "stars" have a certain need and desire for attention--otherwise why would they become stars?

You know I see nothing wrong with it. I like the song. But I did not even get the underlying meaning until I heard it on the boards.

The title of the song sounds like the spelling of the F bomb and the word me. I couldn't figure out the hype from reading / saying the title. However, I heard the song on the radio last night and my jaw hit the floor! I definitely heard it!

Not just that but the lyrics of the chorus are, "love me, hate me, but all the boys and girls are begging to if you seek Amy"

I don't like her music but her lyrics are no more explicit than many other artists out there. Heck, I remember back in the '70's when Robert Plant promised to give us "every inch of my love"

I remember that song! This is the FIRST time I've ever thought of it that way. <blushes>

If (prounced "eff") You See Kay Me (seek Amy, "see kay me"). It's actually kinda clever, but I still can't believe it's playing on our local radio stations.

For anyone still confused:

If = F
You = letter that sounds like you
See = letter that sounds like see
The K in Seek and the first letter of Amy said together sound like a letter = KA
The last syllable of Amy is the last word of the sentence = me

So it sounds like an obscenity spelled out and then "me".

Don't know if this will get deleted but there it is until it does.

I had never heard the song so it took you guys spelling it out (haha) for me to get it. I think it's funny and kinda clever, but then my radio station just got done playing "closer" by NIN.

Another one late to the party. I didn't get it, either, but I don't listen to Britney's music.

Reminds me of something that happened years ago when DH did computer tech work. He'd fix a machine and tell me, "It was just another 'ID TEN T' error." For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what it was and finally asked him to detail it. He smiled and said, "Write it out. You'll understand."

So, I wrote out on a piece of paper, "IDTENT" and he laughed even harder. "No, honey, try the number 10." That turned it into:

ID10T (Idiot for those who might still be wondering but I'm sure nobody is by now). We still laugh about it now.

Britney obviously doesn't give an "eff you see k" what people think about this song! She's hauling in the bucks! I've never been a big fan of hers. When DD was little, I was lucky that she wasn't into her. She's 15 and doesn't like her now either. Even though I don't care for her, I do have to say that I just watched the video on YouTube and I liked the tune. I could dance to that. I agree that her parent's were seeing their meal ticket drying up. Talk about a bunch of pimps. She has made an amazaing "comeback" if you want to call it that. I could see Madonna doing this song back in the 80's. It's all about shock value. Sex sells. I think she's a good businesswoman. I guess that if people are worried about little kids listening to it, they should put some kind of warning on the CD. I hear songs just as "bad" everday. I love rap and you wouldn't believe what's in some of those songs. DH hates it and gets pissed when I have it on. Some of their meanings could be construed as something not that nice. What about Lil Wayne's "Lollipop"? Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" (love that song by the way). ~Lisa

I agree that if you choose to listen to certain types of music you can expect to hear cursing, especially rap. My ipod is full of that kinda stuff, including T.I's latest song that I just love, which is full of the N word and a few other choice words. That being said, I don't think that some stuff belongs on mainstream radio, including this new song from Britney. When I hear 7 & 8 year old girls singing it at school....yikes!!

Personally I rather prefer the Bloodhound Gang's song - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kiko - I mean if you're going for thinly veiled profanity at least have a catchy video with a banana car driving into tunnels (shrugs)..

I plead local - they're from around here. And unlike Bam who I'd "vote off the island" they're somewhat amusing. Besides - anybody who can write a song about WaWa has my vote.

I just had to chime in here. Its not a bad song. Here are the lyrics and the you tube video. I guess to each their own.
I am more of a nickleback and three doors down fan. Now there are some lyrics that will have your mouth hang'n

YouTube - Britney Spears - If U Seek Amy

La la la, la la la
La la la, la la la

Oh baby baby have you seen Amy tonight?
Is she in the bathroom is she smokin' up outside? Oh
Oh baby baby does she take a piece of lime
For the drink that I'mma buy her do you know just what she likes? Oh

Oh oh, tell me have you seen her? Because I'm so oh
I can't get her off of my brain
I just want to go to the party she gonna go
Can somebody take me home?
Ha ha, he he, ha ha ho

Love me hate me, say what you want about me
But all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy
Love me hate me, but can't you see what I see?
All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy
Love me hate me, la la la, la la la

Amy told me that she's gonna meet me up
I don't know where or when and now they're closing up the club, oh
I've seen her once or twice but boy she knows my face
But it's hard to see with all the people standing in the way, oh

Oh oh, tell me have you seen her, because I'm so oh
I can't get her off of my brain
I just want to go to the party she gonna go
Can somebody take me home?
Ha ha, he he, ha ha ho

Love me hate me, say what you want about me
But all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy
Love me hate me, but can't you see what I see?
All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy
Love me hate me

Oh, so what you want about me?
Oh, but can't you see what I see?
Oh, so what you want about me?
La la la, la la la

So tell me if you see her
'Cause I've been waiting here forever
Oh baby baby if you seek Amy tonight
Oh baby baby we'll do whatever you like
Oh baby baby baby
Oh baby baby baby

La la la, la la la
La la la, la la la

Love me hate me, say what you want about me
But all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy
Love me hate me, but can't you see what I see
All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy

Love me hate me, say what you want about me, yeah
Love me hate me, but can't you see what I see?
All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy
Love me hate me

Oh, so what you want about me?
Oh, but can't you see what I see?
Love me hate me
Oh, so what you want about me?
All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy

Ok I just watched the video. First let me say that I usually listen to oldies but goodies and movie musicals (South Pacific, Sound of Music, etc...) This is not my kind of music, but I thought it was very good. At least she just spelled the word, other songs say it many many times during the song. I am so glad that she has pulled her life together. I hope it continues.

Right. As it "reads" its very innocuous. The lyric makes no sense if you say it as it reads.

But if you say it as it was apparently intended, the lyric is :
All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to If (F) you (U) Seek Amy (CK-me)

Just an article I found online ...
Britney Spears' new single If You Seek Amy faces being banned after US radio stations say the lyrics are too rude | The Sun |Showbiz|Bizarre

Off topic, but when I saw WaWa I had to say how I miss it! Everyone down here laughs and says "what's WaWa?"...I sure wish we had one though...It's the first thing I hit on our way up to NJ...the first one we see is in VA I think... ~Lisa

Haha! Same here, I used to live right next to a Wawa in NJ. No one's even heard of it here.

Off topic w/ a lil bit o' trivia:
Wawa is an Indian word for wild goose (as in Canada Goose).
Dh's mom's fam came from WAWA and owned a restaurant there a zillion years ago called the Wild Goose, otherwise I'd have no access to this totally useless piece of info. ;-)
Gotta love those Wawa sandwiches, eh? ;-)

Wawa sandwiches rock - particularly the italian hoagies. Although hubby's from pittsburgh so while he loves Wawa he tends to jones for Sheetz. I have to say - Sheetz has almost as good sandwiches and really good coffee too. In particular they now have a full on espresso bar where they make real espresso. Pity they've gotten almost as expensive as starbucks for it cause its not QUITE as good - but when it was cheaper it was plenty good.

If anybody is dying for something Wawa that isn't perishable (coffee beans etc) you can PM me and I can see about getting some for you.

*I* wouldn't listen to it and my radio station doesn't play it (but I listen to alternative Rock stations that play 3 Days Grace, Nickelback, Hinder and the like) so my kids would never hear it (as they are 7 & 9 and listen to what I do). So many songs have lyrics much worse. Many of the songs I listened to in the 80's had lyrics worse. How about the hair bands and the strippers dancing on desks in Girls Girls Girls? Oh, and my personal fave (I sing it at kareoke), I Touch Myself by the Divinyls? Can't get any more blatant than that can you?

I think where my "outrage" lies is that Britney is one of those pop stars that the kids seem to (still) like and emulate. I know that at my elem school the most popular is Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, but there are still plenty of Britney girls around.

Yeah, I cringe at the idea of a 7 yr old little girl singing "If You Seek Amy". Luckily at that age parents still have quite a bit of control over what their kids watch and listen to. I don't think Britney should be held to a higher standard than other musicians. Maybe if parents stopped allowing their little girls to listen to her, she'd disappear, since they seem to make up the majority of her fan base.
