Red face Anyone here who suffers from ibs or is lactose intolorent a question

As many of you know my son Tommy suffers from ibs and is also lactose intolorent and also has a mild case of celiac disease. He is currently on 2 medicines. He mostly controls it all with his diet. However he has been eating lately the frozen pretzels with the salt on them. Now normally he does very well with his medicine and diet but he has gotten some stomach aches from the pretzels, he thinks it is the salt. I asked his nutrition doctor about certain spices which, she said the following are fine, paprika, parsley, basil, fresh garlic not too much and perhaps some salt to taste. Of course, we are talking about the thicker salt here like the one on the pretzels. Has anyone else experienced problems with extra or thicker salt.. He really loves eating the pretzels, since his diet is so limited, but if he has to eat them plain to not have stomach problems then he will have to do. The only other way to increase his pain medicine to deal with the cramps from an attack. Any help deeply appreciated. Peace. Catherine

Would taking probiotic pills help? The good bacteria can't hurt, can it?

I used to have such a sensitive stomach. I was always...umm going.. I started taking probiotic pills they are by Natrol called Probiotic Acidophilus BioBeads. each pill has 2.5 billion live cultures and you don't have to keep them in the fridge. I think 30 beads cost about $11.. but so worth it!!

Yes they the pretzels and bagels he eat are gluten free, for his celiac disease which out of the three stomach aliments is the least. Omg if he could not eat bread, we would really be in trouble. I also bake him all my own gluten free bread and bagels and I use the same dough for the pretzels but again I am using the course salt that is placed on top. Right now the meds he takes are dicylomine which is taken to prevent a attack. He takes cyclobenzaprine for the cramps. Susiecat, he is also a nervous person and also these attacks are from nerves not just the food. Did the stuff you take help alot, what exactly did you take. What foods do you avoid??/ . Of course for him anything spicy, greasy, oily, fried are out.. Alcoholic beverages are also so bad for him , it is like pure acid, that with buffalo wings.. Again his celiac is extremely mild, but his gastro doctor has told us it will get likely get worst and his inhereted sp... . My late mother in law had all three and one of my husbands brothers has had all three problems since his teens. However since turning 50 2 years the celiac disease became very very bad.. Thanks for any help.. Peace. Catherine

I eat anything now... Oily stuff was the worst for me.. oh man if I was ever constipated all I had to do was take a spoon of corn oil HAHAHA.

Olive oil doesn't upset my stomach. It's the ONLY oil I can eat. Let me find a link to the probiotic beads.

Here they are and they are on sale.. woot! I should get me some more.. for the just in cases.

Buy Natrol BioBeads Probiotic Acidophilus, Dietary Supplement Online at drugstore.com

I eat spicy foods... the spicier the better for me.. but I've always done that.
If you do decide to take the beads.. try them for at least 2 weeks straight.
I'm so glad I did. I always felt so blah and yucky until I did and finally had normal poops.

Hope I didn't offend anyone with my post... everyone poops

Wink

Susiecat, thanks so much hon for the links, believe me any different helpful information to help with my son Tommy's medical problems I will gladly accept anytime. For him with his ibs some people suffer from constipation to severe diarreha sp... For him its the latter and some people suffer from both which I assume in worst even more. But for Tommy if you viewed my pictures you can see how tall he is and how skinny he is. He truly has been thin all this life and was always a fussy eater. With all these conditions now it makes it so hard for him to maintain and gain weight. However because he also suffers from 2 heart aliments all the doctors have always told me and my dh it is better he is thin then over weight. But as a mom I would love to see him gain some weight. He is 6/2 but only weighs 126lbs. Anyway I also have been trying to try more natural ways to deal with all this. So I will look into those links when I get some time later. Thanks for your helpful information. Peace. Catherine
