Allergic Eye Disease Please Please help , I can't take this any more

For about 2 years now I have lived on and off with my eyes feeling like there's a sand pebble or something behind my eye lid. In the last year it's became worse and in the last week it's been awful ! I finally broke down today and went to the doctor. He did an eye exam and said the underside of my eye lid looked like an orange peel ( bumps all over it where it should be flat ) this was due to allergies Now I suffer allergies something awful for 20 years. But nothing like this year has been for me. Since Dec I have had 4 attacks with the 4th being the worse I have ever experienced putting me in the bed with a fan blowing on me so I could just breathe. He gave me a DX for drops that contained steroids and told me to get a OTC of refresh to place on my lower lid at night when I sleep. However, The pain and the feeling of sand in my eye is driving me NUTS !, Please please if you too suffer from this what can I take to make my eye numb so it doesn't feel this way till the dx takes. The doctor places some drops in my eye before the exam and man it burned like crazy but in secs the pain was gone but it didn't last too long. Is there anything at all I can buy OTC to numb the eye ?...
Sorry if I sound like a baby, but it hurts so bad and that feeling makes me want to rub my eye lid right off.
TIA.

I didn't have the same problem, but I did have an allergic reaction to a prescription once that made my eyelids blow up. The only relief I got, until the steroids took effect, was to put an frozen gel pack over my eyes. It helped a lot. If you don't have one of those handy, try a bag of frozen peas.

I think I felt a lot better by the next day, but I can't remember if I actually got relief earlier than that. Hope it kicks in soon!

Thank- You.
I too hope to feel better. I 1st thought I had scratched my eye, then thought something as in my eye. In the past when this happen it didn't last but a couple of days, so thought yea scratched the eye and it's healed now. But since that last attack 4 weeks ago my eyes have been red, but nothing too bad, then last week this happen and I really thought it was a eye lash or maybe a 'wild" lash growing wildly since it didn't go away like in the past. then day before yesterday it stoped but this morning it was back..nothing I did helped. Flushed my eye, plucked lashes ( that hurt like a dickens ! ) so I headed off to the eye doctor. I have never heard of this before and I didn't get the "true" name for it only allergic eye disease since this has been happening for a few years now. researching this was crazy as it didn't say just what it was or what could be done OTC to help. It listed all kinds of stuff all the way to a STD Of the eyes.So till the office opens Tuesday I'm on my own if the drops don't kick in before this. ACK, I feel like I'm falling apart since my birthday in Feb .

My husband has had allergies since I can remember. He has tried everything. His allergist prescribed Zyrtec and it has worked WONDERS!!!

It is now OTC. He takes one a day at night. His eyes don't itch anymore, he doesn't rub his eyes (he used to rub them SO much I thought he was going to damage his eyes).

If he doesn't take his Zyrtec every day, he can really tell a difference. You might want to try it. I really think it would help you.

Hope you're better real soon!!!

Zyrtec worked for my itchy eyes and ears. I also used drops called Similisan when the bumps drove me insane.

Thanks e1 for all the suggestions. The drops have worked so far. I woke this morning and my eye doesn't hurt or feel as if theres a pebble of sand behind the eye lid so this is good !.I've been putting that refresh P.M eye cream in at night, but man once you put that stuff in don't try to get back up for anything you can't see LOL.
I have been taking Allegra for a few years with good results, but this last season not even that worked for me. Then I tried something called loridine(sp ?), nada, then I tried claritin and still that didn't work. The last attack was in the ending of Dec all the way thru mid Jan. People at Cub scouts when we had meetings wouldn't get near me from fear I had the flu. I assured them it was just allergies, but they said we've never seen allergies like that before you have the flu/ I didn't have the flu lol. I'm just glad the drops have kicked in and hope this never happens again ( not counting on that but 1 can hope).
again thanks for all the suggestions e1.

Loratadine is the active ingredient in Claritin. So, you were taking the same thing. Generic Zyrtec works when my allergies aren't severe. I also take generic Benadryl when my allergies are at their worst. That's in addition to the Zyrtec.
