What is your favorite spiral sliced ham?

I don't want to spend the money for a HoneyBaked one.
What kind is the best? Hillshire Farms, Sugardale, ?
I will make my own honey glaze.
thanks

without a doubt Smithfield hams, or Edwards hams in Williamsburg, VA! Nothing better than a ham from Virginia!

I think the better ones are not the spiral sliced, as i think it dries the ham our more, but f i had to choose i think sugardale and cooks make a great ham.

Fave hands down is the Kirkland (Costco) brand spiral sliced ham. It has a packet of glaze mix you can use (optional) and it is SO GOOD. Much better (and tons cheaper) than the popular here Honeybaked Ham. I will be buying one next week

Personally, I think the Honeybaked is well worth the money. I know its more expensive, but I have tried many others and nothing else comes close. That being said, I'll agree that the Kirkland (Costco) hams are not bad if you absolutely don't want the HBH.

I was going to say Smithfield too! We got a bunch at Wm after Christmas for like .99 cents a lb.
I put them in the freezer and cooked one last month. It was so moist and just had a wonderful flavor.
My cousin cooked one of hers too and said the same thing. She said she won't buy any other brand now.

We like Kirkland (Costco) hams here. I usually glaze mine first with a bottle of Iron Chef Orange Sauce - and then with the packet they include with the ham. Yummy!

carando ham is mushy in my opinion. Honeybaked hams are wonderful too, well worth the money.

I agree with aryia....I prefer a regular ham. The spiral sliced ones that I've had were always too dry for my tastes. Is there a secret to keep that from happening?

I cook mine in the cooking bags that you cook turkeys in. I pour some ginger ale over them and then bake it until it is to temp. Never have a dry spiral ham.

I am not sure cj as i always baste my hams thru the whole cooking process and the spiral ones still remain drier then a regular ham. I use a can of coke, some oj and brown sugar for my sauce amd its sooo yummy too.

Yes the outside edge browns and gets crispy. I cook turkeys and pork roasts a lot in the bags and they are always nice and brown and the turkey skin comes out really crispy and the inside is nice and moist.

We have bought whatever the stores have had on sale. We have had Cooks, Carando....both excellent for the money. I also won a ham once from one of those gourmet catalogues. I think it was almost $50 . I didn't see much difference.

I tie the ham together tightly with kitchen string. I like the spiril cut for the convenience, but I do agree that the cutting can dry it out....so I keep it tightly tied together while baking

We have gotten our hams from a local, more upper scale food market here. There is a local restaurant that sells spiral sliced hams. We always get a spiral sliced ham, and both places recommend NOT cooking it. They are already fully cooked. They recommend just taking it out of the refrigerator 15 minutes before serving. They do not even recommend heating it.

Everyone who has eaten one of these hams says it is the best they have ever had. So, I just don't know!

I just heat mine through with glaze like bascapline said it's already fully cooked. Even though I don't eat meat I have never had a complaint about my hams. I have used many different brands and have found that looking at them carefully for fat and kind of squeezing for mushiness is successful.

I don't think there is a difference. People go on and on about Honeybaked hams, but the Sam's Choice one is just as good. I have tried them all and the fancy names are no better.

My family is totally hooked on the Appleton spiral ham from Aldi's -- we have to have it every Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas for extended-family dinners

It is already cooked so I just heat it through and it does not dry out.

I think the Honey Baked Hams are the best but I've never tried one from Sam's Club. Does their's taste like a Honey Baked Ham?

I absolutely love the Honeybaked Hams. I could not imagine having anything else, and I think my family would probably mutiny if I made anything else.....

ITA w/ Keowa, cooking bags keep them super moist! I cook almost all my meats in bags.......

It does to us. I just think a ham is a ham and it is all in making sure there is not too much fat and not over heating, etc. I feel the Honey Baked are overpriced because I do not find them to have anything special that makes them worth the price. Just my opinion. I love the Sam's one.

My SIL always makes the Honeybaked hams and I really don't find anything special about them either. The only ham that I ever had that I thought was really good was one my aunt made. It was a Safeway Select spiral one. I've been buying those ones ever sense and they always turn out yummy.

I already have my ham for this year's Easter dinner. It's a Farmland Spiral Sliced Ham. I think I am going to warm it up. I have read at a couple of online sites, there are several ways to do this. One is to use the crock pot,

Crock Pot: Add 1 cup of chicken broth, water, Pepsi or Coke? Coke or Pepsi? Cover it and cook on low for 5-8 hours.

Oven: Cover the ham with aluminum foil, and cook at 325 degrees for 10 minutes per pound. It said to make certain the ham is totally wrapped in foil.

Has anyone ever warmed up a spiral sliced ham with the above methods?

My oven is going to be in use with other dishes, so the crock pot method would be good for me.
