Do you remember arcades and roller rinks ?

we had arcade when I was in high school. The next town over. Basically a storefront with about 30 quarter machines , PacMan, Centipede, etc. It was *THE* place to be.

The roller rink was in the next county..wow, on a Friday and Saturday night, you could not find parking ! It was a big hangout..kids as well as adults...Remember the flashing lights, brown boots with orange wheels skates ?

I loved the arcade and the roller rink! The roller rink from my childhood is actually still around and does a great business. It was so much fun to teach my son to roller skate. Now my daughter wants to learn. They think it's so cool that mom can skate backward.

The only time I went to the roller rink was when someone had a birthday party there. Less than a dozen times. It was fun though. No arcades when I was growing up-I'm too old!

We used to go skating every Saturday for like 50 cents (1978). Oh the memories of being one of the "fast" skaters going around to Boston's Foreplay/Long time. I was listening to my Boston hits CD yesterday reliving my skating days. The laswt time I tried to skate I ended up on the floor with a sprained ankle. Ah the memories . . . .

My college roommate and I used to hit the arcades in downtown Philly once in a while. All the local guys thought we were so hot, not because we were good looking, but because we (especially my roommate) could beat any guy at Asteroids, lol!

When I was a kid arcades didn't have video games, they were called penny arcades and had pinball machines!

I went roller skating at least once a week growing up. There were 2 roller rinks in town and I was on the "speed team" at one of them when I was 5. Every Saturday morning for team practice and then the daily fun skate time. I loved the game (red light green light and the limbo come to mind). I've only been roller skating once as an adult. There are no roller rinks near us that I know of. The 2 nearby closed years ago. It's sad really because I would love my kids to have those kind of memories.

When I was younger, I use to go skating every Friday and Sat. If someone wasn't there, then you knew they were in trouble at home (grounded). We also had all night skate (from like 9pm-6am) where you couldn't leave after 11 unless a parent came in and got you. I can't skate for the life of me now! I had my own skates and we use to do a thing called "bopping" where you ride on the tip of your stopper (we had round ball stoppers for this).
