Dressing Up

The other night we had our service awards banquet at work. Not by any means a formal event but dressy. And it always makes me wonder why some women (men don't seem to be afficted by this syndrome) buy clothes and shoes that are either physically uncomfortable or impossible to wear for any length of time.

Are they so sold on the idea of how it "should" look that they aren't aware that the look is lost when they are continually pulling, tugging, buttoning, taking off, wiggling ect.?

Or is it that they don't realize their own limitations? I mean if your normal footwear is a running shoe 364 days a year, why would you think you could just stick your foot into a narrow 4 inch stiletto and still walk with the grace that you do every other day? The beautiful shoes that made the outfit don't have the same effect being carried in you hand.
Don't get me wrong, back in the day when I wore heals and hose every day, partying in heels all night was not a biggie, but not any more. Too many years of comfortable flats and casual shoes have stopped any thoughts I might have of anything over a 2 inch heel.

By the same token wearing very revealing clothing when that really isn't their style so that they are continually pulling up, down, away from, their body.
It just seems like I see a couple examples of this everytime we have to attend a "dress up" event.

So what makes some women turn a night on the town into an endurance contest?

I cannot understand it either . For work I must wear to a degree nice clothes, however I dress what I condiser classy hippy, long dresses, long skirts, vests, old and antique silver jewelry, miminal make-up and sandels from april till october and then comfortable mocossins, or low comfortable boots. When I see women wearing tight tight clothing and pantihose and high high heals I feel so bad for them. I have to be neat but comfort first. Peace. Catherine. Edited to say I love love the way Janis Joplin dressed and the way Barbra Streisand did dress in the movie Evergreen and the way Stevie Nicks dresses all class acts and I love their clothes they are for me 100 percent... Comfort first... Peace. Edited one more time sorry I could go barefoot if I was permitted lol.... Peace

My Mom used to say, Women dress to impress other women. I am for comfort 100%. I don't understand why people were uncomfortable clothing.. it just makes them hate going to affairs that much more.

It's everyday wear too. I see younger women and girls constantly pulling their jeans up and immediately pulling their tshirts down. They are too late for the world to see their tattoos and string underwear. They walk 3 feet and the act starts over.

Then again, many wear this attire and make no effort to "make ends meet" which is equally as irritating.

That is one of my biggest pet peeves

I see girls/women in church that are sitting there with their "crack" showing in the back of their pants

DH and I make a game out of it LOL We bet each other when so and so will tug at her skirt again or when another person will panty flash us or twist their ankle, etc. We try to laugh at it rather than get irritated. It makes the evening go by faster. I don't understand why they do it. I think they are trying to impress the other women. My friends are guys and they are happy with a little cleavage shot if you have something worth showing. If not, be comfy. It's awkward to talk to someone preoccupied with their outfit

I think sometimes these women have run into a good salesperson! I know it has happened to me! The outfit looks good in the store, a quick try on and the salesperson gushes about how great you look! Easy sale for her, whether or not you are 'comfortable' or appropriate! Then you get the 'what was I thinking' next morning!

It depends on which ones you try. I have the VS lace side ones (that stretch) and they are the most comfy panties I have ever worn. I can't wear anything but thongs anymore or I'm tugging at my butt all day (which isn't a pretty site) and visible panty lines (VPL) and a big pet peeve for me.

Ok..back on topic

I only wear thongs, except when I am at home and in my baggie comfy stuff. I think panty lines are the ugliest thing to look at and they ruin any nice outfit. I have no problem with them.....bladder infection? How is that? The front is like any other panty.

gROOVYGIRL when I mentioned that perhaps wearing a thong I should have been more detailed, wearing a thong which most youung girls do along with very extremely tight tight jeans does not let your area breathe enough and I know for a fact having 2 daughters they have been told many times by their doctors it sometimes can use bladder infections. Again personally I could never ever wear one way too uncomfortable for me.. If you can wear one more power to ya all. peace. Catherine

Okay, I will buy that, but I have never had any problems. As for comfort, I always thought they would not be, but I do not even notice the ones I wear and regular panties are uncomfortable for me, unless I and wearing a skirt or baggy pants. To each his/her own. I just can't stand panty lines!

Hey groovygirl ever heard the doctor tell you to always all white cottone briefs to breathe out germs. Again I do not like pantilines either, however just the thought of wearing them and I am uncomfortable, believe me both my girls do and so do all their friends again they are all skinny minnies lol, those days for momma are over. However if you can again more power there girlfriend. Groovygirl how do you feel about pantihose do you like wear them. Personally I do love to wear short skirts and dresses and love the look especially how black pantihose make me look skinny, they are so umcomfortable especially ones with the control top, sometimes I cut a bit on each side and then there are times I feel them slipping down oops. lol.... Peace. catherine

I think that would probably be more likely to cause a yeast infection and that would happen with any type of panties if the jeans are extremely tight.

I wear mostly thongs or hipsters, but I try to find the low-rise ones so the rest of the world can't see them.

Good jeans are hard to find. I like low-rise ones that aren't too low and I hate "mom" jeans and refuse to wear them. Plus I'm short and most boot cut jeans, which I prefer, are usually too long.

I hardly ever "dress up" but when I do comfort is a big factor. Usually I prefer black slacks with a classy top and boots. Every now and then I'll wear heals but only 2"-3" tops because I'm clumsy. In the summer sometimes I'll go with a long flowy skirt and dressy sandals.

I don't usually pay too much attention to what other people are wearing, but every now and then it is amusing.

jenh22 your correct it could cause more of a yeast infection as well. But because we are women and more likely to suffer from bladder infections I know personally wearing plain white cotton briefs was good to prevent bladder and or yeast infections and so sorry op this has gotten off topic. But again Jenh22 your correct. Peace. Catherine

Yes, my thongs are cotton. I hate pantyhose because I hate the feel of being confined. I do not wear them, ever! I too wear the low cut ones. Pantyhose slipping is something do not miss!! LOL

I have to tell you....I see way more than anyone needs to see working at a local high school. Although there is a dress code, it doesn't seem to apply to teenage girls wearing low cut jeans and having their thong strings exposed. I was trying not to look a few days ago, but I just couldn't help myself, one of the girls actually had a thong hanging out, and at the top....it had jewels on it. I thought I had seen it all until that moment. Why would anyone need jewels hanging off their underwear? She had more shiny items hanging off her thong than I would wear hanging off my ears....

If you wear a thong don't make this mistake.

To thong wearers: Do you ever get used to that "feeling" you get back there?

I find it very distracting...

Except for boy shorts it seems all underwear gets bunched up on me, so I figure the less fabric the better. I only like the thongs that are a really thin strip. The ones that are about an inch thick drive me nuts. Otherwise I wear low-rise boy shorts as long as there isn't an issue with panty lines.

oook, are we now talking about regular clothes, or are we talking about thongs? As far as regular clothes go, nothing makes you dress more humble than being a substitute teacher and not knowing if you're teaching 8th grade shop, 6th grade PE, or 7th grade math, and is your room going to be the coldest in the bldg., or the hottest? And you are going to be on your feet all day-what are the cutest shoes I can wear, and still walk at the end of the day. I made the mistake one day, of trying to wear the cute dress, and the high-heeled boots. At the end of the day, it was all I could do to crawl out to the parking lot to my car. So now, I try to jazz it up as I can, but I do need to be comfortable.
As far as the undies thing-I am so boring-mostly Haynes. I do have a couple of thongs, but for whatever reason, whenever I wear those around DH, they don't stay on too long.....

Your post really hit home with me! I remember one of my first times working as a sub I worked in the Special Ed room and it was field trip day. Nothing as special as walking thru an apple orchard with high heels and a dress in the middle of October. I learned very quickly to ask who you will be subbing for. Our high school has a huge temp difference in each class room. Both the art rooms are freezing all the time, and a couple of the chem labs are very warm. Subbing for one of the gym teachers is always interesting...you never know if you will be inside playing basketball or outside in the middle of the winter doing cross country sking! No matter which room you sub in you cannot wear jeans. They are not allowed.

Thongs are the most comfortable undies ever. I only wear them and no other kind will do.

Has anyone ever heard the saying "Just because they make it in your size, doesn't mean you should wear it"?
It truly does make sense!! I am miserable FOR the people I see tugging and being miserable!!
