Exclamation The Conflicker Worm Set to Hit Computers Tomorrow

I've heard so much on the news about the Conflicker Worm set to mess up computers tomorrow (April 1). Microsoft is offering a $250,000 reward for the arrest of the person responsible.

What are you doing to protect your computer from it? I went to Microsoft Corporation and downloaded the latest patches. I guess that's all one really can do.

For the computer savy, I have a question -- If we leave our computers off tomorrow, will that protect us from the virus? Or if our computer is infected, will it just wait till we start up the computer the next day? From what I've been reading, a computer may have the virus but the 'release' date isn't until April 1.

There are other versions of this worm, but this is said to be the one that will cause the most damage.

I think if you have all updates downloaded and run a good antivirus software you'll be ok.

Just a heads up, this is a WINDOWS virus. It has nothing to do with what internet browser you run.

Make sure to run all your Windows updates, and pray to God that your virus protection works.

If you are running Windows, and don't have any virus protection (ie-Norton or McAffe) I would STRONGLY suggest you go to one of these sites and download their free virus protection.
FREE antivirus software with spyware protection: avast! Home Edition
AVG Free - Download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition for Windows XP and Vista

Also, if you are a Comcast customer, you are entitled to free McAfee virus & firewall software.
Comcast.net Security

I suggest that you do not take this one lightly. It has wreaked havoc on the Windows computers we have at the school I work for and it's a bitch to remove.

AVG is a good one. I've been using it for about 9 months with no problems.
