We watched as they grew and followed them for the entire summer, but in the fall, sadly they disappeared and it was believed that a hawk got them. It was very sad. I enjoyed watching the mother and father take turns sitting on the eggs and caring for the loons. The mother was so distraught when the babies were gone... |
ACK! Nature is so cruel sometimes. A couple of years ago I had a Mockingbird nest out in my backyard. I was so excited to see 3 eggs in it.
Several days before the eggs were due to hatch I went out to take a look and they were all gone. Something, a squirrel I think, had taken them. I bawled like a baby.
