Cool I need computer help/advice. Having problems.

I know someone here will know where to tell me to go for help or to find out what is wrong with my computer. Everytime I pull up a screen a window pops up and says "Generic Host Process for Win32Se....." then you can click on send error report or don't send error report, whichever you do it shurts down the screen as soon as you click on the send error report or don't send error report. The windows keep popping up, they are very annoying, make the computer run super slow. As long as I leave the little pop up thingy up the window stays open, but more keep popping up. There is also a second popup window that reads "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience" then gives the option of clicking on send error report or don't send, whichever you click on, the screen then shuts down, if you don't click on aything, it doesn't shut down. It started about 4 days ago. I have cleared out all the cookies, emptied the recylcle bin, defragged, rebotted several different times. Do I have a virus? How do I find out? Is there a website I can go to for help? Is there somewhere I can look in the computer myself and find out? Any help is appreciated. I am trying to avoid having to actually take it in to the repair shop, as I had to take one of my cat's into the vet last night and the surgery is costing us between $700-$900, so it's not a good time to have to pay for the computer to be fixed to. Thanks for any help!

I always run a free software called CCleaner - Home and stuff like that usually gets cleared up. I also run my virus protection program scan as well. Other than that, maybe someone else has advise

Yes, I've had that one before. It's very annoying. Try running AVG and SpyBot (I think it's called). That might get rid of it. . .if not the Geek Squad online service is very good. They charged me $100 and literally ran like 20 different scans (it took 3 days) all just over the computer. . .I didn't have to actually take it in. HTH

Google is your friend! Simply search 'Generic Host Process for Win32Se' to learn what causes the error message and how to fix it.

I found this in under a minute and trying it won't hurt your computer because you can simply undo it if it doesn't work.

Mike says:

If you have Microsoft Update and automatic updates enabled, and you then get the “Generic Host Process for Win32 Services” error, and several services stop WITHOUT logging to the event log, then here is your solution:

Disable Microsoft Update.

This problem started happening within the last month on 6 or 8 of the 250 machines that I support, and this fix has worked on every one of them.

You can also consider dumping IE in favor of something like Firefox. Even though I'm on a Mac, I found it to be much more stable, even in Windows.

WorldStart is a free site that has some very nice and talented people that are willing to help you.

I had a serious virus a couple years ago and they helped me get rid of it.

You have to sign up but it is free.
Good Luck, Shirley

I use Windows and have Firefox on all of my computers. You won't have those kind of problems using Firefox and it's faster. Another thing I love about it is that you can Save and Quit where you are and it will start up on the same sites that you were on. I never have got any spyware or malware on Firefox, but I do sometimes when I use IE. I use Malwarebytes' Anit-Malware to get rid of it. It can be downloaded for free. I used to use Adaware and have it on another computer. Either are good programs.

My husband does computer repair and he said it sounds like a trojan. If it is a legitimate error he said there is some things you can do to get rid of it, but it sounds more like a trojan because of the other things going on. My advice is run avast. Avast is one of the best virus detectors out there and its free.

aryia is right, it certainly could be a trojan. Make sure you do all your Windows updates along with running Avast or whatever virus protection you have.. That Conficker worm was out recently....could be anything.

Could also be an IE bug, do you have the new version 8? I'd stick with 7 for a while. In the meantime check out Firefox, cause add-ons are just so much fun!
