Looks Like I May Have to Go To Wal*Mart

I am looking for a portable dishwasher and the best deal by far (about $200 less) I can find is this one from Wal*Mart.

Is this a good brand? My friend works there and gets a discount so I could save 10%. If I could find a similar or better one for less I would get it.

Any comments?

Walmart.com: Danby Energy Star 8 Place Settings Portable Dishwasher: Appliances

The reviews are all good.

I found two here that are cheaper and come from Sears: Sears Outlet: Cooking & Cleanup : GE Spacemaker® 18 in. Built-In Dishwasher OR Sears Outlet: Cooking & Cleanup : 18 in. Built-In Dishwasher BUT, you'll have to check your local Sears Outlet for availability.

One more thing, have you checked the capacity of a countertop one to a portable one? I didn't check it, but the countertop ones appear to be about half the price. Guess it was would make sense, huh, if it was half the space!!!

For $400, I can wash a lot of dishes by hand. And I second it, stay out of Walmart. Sears, Lowe's, and Home Depot will all price match and give an extra 10%.

OP, if you are looking for a recommendation, I have the 18in portable Kenmore which is actually the GE. Sears sells both. I love this machine. If you are short on space, this is your machine. Haven't had a problem with it. Now that my kids are getting older and not eating at home that much, I didn't need a large machine.

Home Depot sells a countertop model that is really small. They only have it online and the reviews (when I last looked) were meh.

The reason built ins are cheaper than portable is b/c the manufacturer doesn't have to pay for a top, sides, wheels, or hoses/faucet hookups on a built in.

I've heard all the appliances WalMart sells are cheap knock offs of the real thing. The manufactures actually make them, but they are a dumb downed model. I'd look somewhere else. Lowe's will pricematch plus 10%.

It use to be is an associate purchased an item for someone else (with the other person's money) just to save the 10%, then it was grounds for immediate termination. I don't know if that is still the case....

While you might save money at Walmart, in the long run you would probably save more going to a home appliance store.

I 2nd that! I don't have a portable dishwasher so I can't you anything about the brand. I do know that other big box stores will price match and sometimes do extra % off (as already mentioned). Do you have a Factory Appliance Outlet near you ? I have bought "scratch and ding" (just barely noticeable) for rock bottom prices

At the risk of exposing myself as a "bad" person and having the MC bash squad come down on me - I know this to be true at other stores as well. In particular, when my son worked at JCPenney while in HS, he would give me his discount when I bought clothes for the family (and him) and security talked to him and let him know that was grounds for termination. I had used my own credit card, so it was pretty obvious, I guess. Oops.

I just checked Consumer Reports, and they don't list the Walmart Danby. I don't think I would purchase it. JMHO. A lot of places sell appliances. I have a stove and refrigerator from Lowes. Bought them at a great price, name brands and they have been very reliable.

I love my 18 inch Kenmore dishwasher. Best thing we ever got for the house almost - only barely beaten out by whole house AC. Its just big enough for the 2 of us and can also handle our occaisional parties and so forth. Works great too, everything is nice and shiny if I use Cascade Complete in it.
