Anyone have the Novasure Endometrial Ablaton done?

Was wondering if anyone here has had the Novasure Endometrial Ablation done and what your experience was. Did they knock you out completely? Did it stop your bleeding?

They have decided this is the best option for me medically they do not want to risk a hysterectomy because of all my medical problems. They do not want to do this in an outpatient facility they want to do it in a hospital.

I have read everything they have given me about it and online, but I would like to hear someone's first hand experience, if you are nto comfortable posting publicly feel free to PM me.

I will know later this afternoon when this will be scheduled.

Also wondering what the cost was and how much out of pocket on average people paid for this after insurance paid.. I only have medicare, and need to know if I should get a advance on my trust my mom has for me to pay this or if it would be something I could pull out of my meager savings account.

Thanks for you stories advice etc.

I had it done a little over a year ago, so I'll try and answer your questions.

Yes, I was knocked out completely. It was outpatient at the hospital. I was there about half a day and off my feet for the next.

It has not stopped my bleeding completely, I have about 3 days of light spotting each month (sorry if it's TMI). It is also not 100% effective as birth control. While you most likely can't carry a child to term anymore, you can get pregnant. It did take care of the problem I had been having which was post-sex bleeding.

My out of pocket cost, after private insurance was over $1000, due to hospital costs, anaesthesia, doctor's fees, etc.

While I am happy with the results, I had a very hard time mentally/emotionally after it was done. It disturbed me to think about the fact that I had volunteered to have the inside of my uterus burned away. The discharge from the burns just seemed to amplify the problem for me. I don't think I had considered that side of the procedure before.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any more questions. Good Luck!

Renee

Wow, that's a mouthful!

I hope what ever you choose works for you. I'm glad you have Renee to "talk" to about it.

I just had it done in March. It was done as an outpatient procedure. I was totally out. It worked very well for me. I have not had any bleeding since and my cycle time and has come and gone. I would recommend it.

My out of pocket cost was $200- my insurance covered the rest.

My recovery was longer than the normal recovery for this procedure because I had several other things done at the same time. But I would think after a day or two you will be back to normal.

Thank you for sharing your stories there was a monkey wrench put into things this afternoon based on my ultrasound he thinks I have adenomyosis and he did a endometrial biopsy. He says if there is any irregularities on the biopsy he is going to switch the procedure to a hysterectomy and I will have to be hospitalized before the procedure and after for several days and have GYN/Oncologist do it. He freaked me out for sure this afternoon.

I am going under the impression I am having the ablation done, I have to think positively.

I am very anemic, bleeding almost constantly and my childbearing days are over with my blood clotting disorder they wont put me back on any form of birthcontrol or hormones, DH is snipped and unless I get a boyfriend which is highly unlikely LOL I cant get pregnant and my last pregnancy we needed help to get pregnant so unless I win the lottery and go the IVF route I am finished. I am enjoying my adopted grandbabies now !

I talked to the financial office about the costs and they will allow me to make payments so that is good, I saved some of my salary from Tax Season up and since we paid the house off I have that money to use towards the bill. Life is getting better here if only we could overcome the medical obstacles we are all having.

Thanks for your stories !

I had it done last May and it was the BEST thing I ever did for myself.

I had in done outpatient and was completely knocked out. I also had Essure-tube blocking procedure-done at the same time.

I was at the outpatient facility for a couple hours from the time of arrival to time of leaving. I had very light cramping the day it was done and a bit the day after along with some discharge but it was NOTHING compared to what I had been going thru. A couple advil the day after took care of it. I didn't know what to expect so I took a week off work but didn't need to, enjoyed the vacation tho', lol!

I had some light spotting off and on for about a month afterward, but nothing a panty liner couldn't handle. No complications, no problems.

Best part is I haven't had a period since May of last year!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy, I had a horrible time with very heavy flow(ultra tampon AND an overnight pad in an hour, that's just not right!)and now I'm free. I'd even have been happy if it would have just backed the flow back to regular tampons but I hit the jackpot!

I paid about $800 out of pocket but I have crappy insurance. Best money I ever spent-used my tax return $.

I recommend this procedure to anyone who has problems with their cycle and either don't want kids or are done having kids. So worth it!!!

Since it's been a year I'm going to have a "tampon party" and give my stash away to friends who can use them. Good riddance!

I had this done in October of 2007 after years and years of horrible painful cramping to the point that I would miss work one or two days a month. It was THE BEST thing I could have done, and I wish I had the procedure done 10 years ago!

My surgery was done at the hospital as an outpatient, it was supposed to be a twilight sleep (Versed) but I don't remember a thing. I was out of hospital in a few hours, came home and slept the afternoon. By evening I felt pretty good. The next day I felt fine and actually went to a craft fair in the afternoon! I had some light bleeding after the procedure.

I have had NO periods and NO cramping since this was done. I didn't have any emotion attached to it other than the joy of not having the debilitating cramps every month.

Everything but $200 was covered by my insurance.

Good luck to you! I hope you can have the procedure and be free!

I had the ablation done in January, I had no problems at all except when biopsy came back, I had precancerous cells all thru the samples taken before the ablation. I had to have a total abdominal hysterectomy. I have Lupus Anticoagulant which causes blood clots, they just thinned my blood, did surgery and started thinning my blood back down....I didnt have any problems...My gyno was just irritated at himself for not doing a biopsy before ablation...but I was bleeding so bad I had to be transfused...so he was just wanting to stop the bleeding quick, which I understand...although it would have kept me from having two procedures pretty much back to back I understood how it all panned out and am very glad the hysterectomy is done and NO more bleeding!!!! I dont know what you have decided or had done by now..but I wish you all the luck in the world.....Sherri

Sherri~ Nothing yet they called and gave me three dates May5, May20, May 27th as options for the surgery it is all on when the Hospital can get me in. I am not on Coumadin anymore was taken off it as of March 5th, long story on that one, I have the Lupus Anti-Coagulant Factor but its not high enough right now to worry about the hematologist says so he pulled me off, but I get blood work regularly. The GYN said he would load me on Lovenox to be sure and they are probably going to do an overnight stay if we do the ablation and if we do the hysterectomy it would be several days because of my other problems. Mytral Valve and Tricuspid Valve regurge, so I also need to be loaded with antibiotics and I have to be treated as contaminated because of a bout of VRE years ago, its a resistant bacteria like MRSA so they isolate me when I am hospitalized so I dont know what they will do with surgery and all.

I tell you lupus sucks, this bleeding sucks and I truly want it cut out, but there is my heart to consider since I had a episode last week so I have to do whats best for me and I hope the ablation does the trick otherwise as I told my husband I will get the ginsu and cut it out myself LOL.

I haven't had that procedure, but I did have a partial hysterectomy-abdominal. Not a fun immediate recovery...but it is the best thing ever done to my body in the long run. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Well worth it all. My uterus was full of fibroids and I had one the sizeof a softball hanging on the outside of the uterus...so it couldn't be done vaginally.

I completely understand...If the ablation will work, it is the most inevasive procedure, when I had it done, they checked my P/T and INR but I didnt have to even go off coumidin for it. When I had the hysterectomy, I had to go off coumidin 6 days before and started on Lovenoxshots until night before surgery. I didnt have any problems with bleeding at all. I have had Lupus about 10 years now but it wasnt until Easter weekend of 07 that I found out I has lupus anticoagulent, I had my gallbladder out on the previous wednesday and did fine but I had a horrible headache when I left the hospital...I tell you I suffered with that headache until Sat. evening...(I had called surgeon's office on Friday morning and never heard back) At hospital they found three blood clots on my brain...no wonder my head hurt!!!LOLOLOL I have Lupus Anemia and because of so many blood transfusions, I have some other kind of antibody in my blood and have to carry a card around...I swear I havent hardly even looked at it.....So I understand, you get sick and tired of it all.....somedays I want to take all my medicine and flush it....and just be normal...but I have 3 kids, so I have to do everything I can to stay well for them....I know your frustrated, but it will be worth it, you will feel better either way...Let me know what you decide and you will be in my prayers, Sherri

I had it done about 12 years ago. It was really new back then. It worked really well for the first few years and then my periods came back, granted, not as heavy as they once were.

I also had the twilight sleep and was released after a couple of hours. I was told I only needed to take the day of surgery off. BIG MISTAKE. I went back to work the next day and I really should have taken the day off. I worked as a sales rep for a snack company so there was lifting and stretching and it made my recovery longer and more painful.

I didn't have any regrets about having it done because I had already had my tubes tied the year before.
