I've had Directv for awhile and love it but can't compare because I have never had Dish. Its pretty user friendly. Customer sevice is good. Cost seems pretty comparable to everyone else. All kinds of packages available to meet whatever your needs may be.

We've had Directv for over 12 years. Never known anything else. We have good customer service, the fees depend on what you get, the more tvs you have in your house, the more it's going to cost. Directv is offering a lot of incentives to sign up with them right now. You can lots of freebies right now thru them and discount programming for a year. Even now I call them about once every 6 months or so and they'll knock off $10/month on my plan and give us free Showtime, HBO, etc. for three months. If you do decide on Directv, they'll send someone to set up everything. You won't have to do anything. |

i also have directv and love it. some of my co workers have dish and i notice they dont get near as many channels as i do with direct. you might want to go online and compare the channels for the same price. i have had direct for 5 yrs now. steph

We have had both direct tv and dishnetwork. I loved direct tv, but we switched to dish because dh liked their program/menu more. Dish is also a little less expensive. BUT, if it was just me making the decisions around here we'd go back to direct tv. Dish goes out everytime it rains or the wind blows hard, and that's SOOOOOO annoying!!!

Thanks everyone. I am leaning toward direct tv so it's good to know you are happy with it. I know that dish network can go out when the weather is bad -- does direct tv do that also?

Not so far and we have had it for close to 3 years. I do remember one time when the wind was VERY hard and was blowing our trees in the back yard into the "southern view" area and it went out for like 10 mins. It also only takes a few mins to come back up if your power goes out. It gets programming information and comes right back up. And, the guide, unlike cable, never does that "unavailable" or "unknown" mess either.

We've had dish since July of last year and we like it fine. My parents have Direct and it does go out with bad snow or wind. It's probably just going to depend on your area, the weather, signal strength, etc.

We have direct TV as well. I like it. When we have a very very bad snow storm sometimes it will blank out on you usually right in the middle of a show you really want to see too. My BIL has Dish Network and the same thing only during really bad snow storms does it sometimes blank out on them. But those are rare. I honestly like the picture quality better on our Direct TV vs BIL Dish network. I think once FIOS TV through Verizon is available in our area we will be switching to that. |

we started with dish, had many problems, so we switched to direct. hardly no problems at all. it goes out w/ storms, but much fewer times than when we had dish. i work w/ a lady who had the complete opposite happen w/ her dish vs direct. i think w/ us it was the guys that hooked the dish up from the beginning we had problems.

When I had direcTV it went out one time in about 2 years time...it was raining sooo hard you could barely see 2 ft in front of you and we probably should not have even had the TV on anyway. That was the only time I remember it going out at all.

We have had DirecTV for almost four years and love it. The only problems are calling after hours to speak with foreigners try to call during business hours. And in the snow if you don't hose it off or have a cover for it the snow may pile up on the receptors. You have to be careful if there are power lines you don't want water from the hose arcing back on you. My Mom had Dish and I watched while I was there. It seemed fine except they did not have some channels they could not agree to contract with. Here in my area there is no CBS on the Dish TV or at least I saw tv commercials saying so about two months ago. I love my DirecTV I am used to the channels, it has lots of music channels also everything on XM. I don't subscribe to the movie stations because when I had them I never watched them. We love Pay Per View though.

| If you call and get the right person and be really nice and have no complaints only praise and ask if there is any chance you can get $20 off your bill for a year you might get it. Or at the least if you gently push you can get one month.
