Have you asked the police what can be done? I would organize a neighborhood meeting so that everyone knows about and can be on watch for this guy. Have the older kids look out for the younger kids and make sure no child is outside alone. Be sure the kids are told in a way that will make them aware but not afraid.

1) typically restraining orders are not granted to non-involved parties 2) I would think that putting a poster up could be construed as harassment and/or slander toward the man. Now, while I'm not questioning that the guy might have creeped the children out, I do question in what context the whole discussion about underwear took place. For example: little girl in dress turning cartwheels. Guy walking dog says "I saw your underwear, imagine what I could have seen if you didn't have them on". Little creepy? Probably (especially to young girls). Predator? who knows. You certainly don't! One "odd" comment does not a pedophile or predator make. I'm all for making children aware of their surroundings and the potential for danger. However, I think labeling this guy a pedophile or a predator based on second hand information is kind of jumping the gun a bit. Just my opinion.

In my neighbored when we had questionable (non residents, not in an area they could just be hanging out in) people around, someone made up a flier had put one in every mailbox. It simply stated the facts (white van, couple guys trying to talk to little kids, get them to come near their van, etc) and to be a bit more alert what is going on in the neighborhood.

| Yes but it better be a general warning that doesn't target him personally. He can sue you if you use his name, picture, or address and he'll win if you can't prove he's a pedophile. Keep the warning flyer simple and don't use any identifiable information in it.

I agree with the poster who said to follow the paper trail of the police report. What exactly did the police say? What happened to the man? You could call the police and ask to speak with the investigating officer. Before the entire neighborhood perhaps destroys an innocent man, perhaps everyone needs to get facts straight and talk to the police. Until someone actually talks to the police, have someone watching the children playing outside. |

The kids did what they were supposed to do, the way I read this -get away from the stranger making them feel uncomfortable and tell parents/an adult. That is the way it should be. Reinforce to the kids they did right, and for them to keep being vigilant. Otherwise, I think all that can be done is to keep a sharper eye out and check the sexual offender list. Of course, the guy doesn't have to have a record, it means he hasn't been caught - if he is a predator. dl |
