I can reccomend some classics, The Red Badge of Courage, Last of the Mohicans, Call of the Wild, For Whom the Bell Tolls, All Quiet on the Western Front, Night, A Separate Peace, An American Tragedy, anything by Steinbeck.

All those listed above (esp. the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson). He might enjoy the author Ken Follett. My 16yr old son is on his third book by him. So far he's read Code to Zero, Jackdaws and is now reading Hornet Flight. They are set during World War 2 and are full of action. The Alex Rider series by Anthony Horrowitz is also great for boys. |

I don't know much about 16yr old boys, but I loved Mutiny on the Bounty. I didn't want to read it because I thought it was a "boy" book, but ended up loving it and reading the trilogy. Has he read The Hobbit yet? That's another great series. ETA- Lord of the Flies was another one of my favorites that I think he might like.
