I've just started reading it and didn't realize it was the murder/suicide that I read about in the newspapers. It was the accountant who murdered his wife and three children and then himself.

I've been reading the comments that were left by people on her last blog.

That is so sad! I get the impression from the blog, there was some sort of tension between the married couple. She had high hopes for her kids! How tragic!

I would not have known that there were such significant financial difficulties that were weighing so heavy on the husband by reading the blog - sounded so normal and successful with the iphone, travels, activities, etc. Very sad situation.

I read her blog a few days ago and it was so normal. She seemed like someone you would see everyday. There was nothing to lead you to believe that something like this could happen.

I use to read mydeathspace.com and that could be chilling. I stopped when I ran across a listing for a girl my kids went to school with.

I'm not familiar with the story nor have I read the blog, but you know, sometimes it is exactly the people that are trying to keep things looking as "normal" as possible. Does that make sense? I think it's a little the same with this Craigslist killer if the motive was, in fact, paying off his gambling debts. Anywhoo. . just my 2 cents. Still sooo sad. I never really understand why these people just don't kill themselves and leave it at that. Why do they have to take everybody else with them?

It is so incredibly sad reading Francie's wonderful blogs. I read a reply from one from her sister a few yrs back, when she was pregnant with youngest child. Her sister said that she will cherish staying home with her children and be so grateful for it when they're 20yrs old, knowing what a great job she did. It's so sad that those kids didn't even get a chance to grow up.

Lately, we have been hearing about the tragedies of stressed-out men, who wipe out their whole family because of financial stresses. It must be a pride related issue. I will never understand why a man would do this.

You know, it kind of ties into the "empty nest" thread on here. Often women's identities are tied up in being a "mom" and men's are tied up in being the "bread winner". I still think it's soooo incredibly sad. I think we need to teach our kids (both boys and girls) that it is OK to fail. Sometimes it isn't our fault. . .sometimes even it is, BUT it isn't the end of the world. Tomorrow you will still wake up and life will go on. I feel bad for those kids that never even had a chance. My parents were part of the depression era. . .things couldn't have gotten much worse. . BUT you didn't kill yourself and your entire family. .. you just made due. And those were valubale lessons. I don't have the answers. I just think that if the expectations weren't so high. .that there was an understanding that sometimes life throws you a curve . . .that maybe these types of things would happen less often. I can't imagine being in a position where I felt I had to kill my entire family. .. even my own children. . to make things right. What a horrible position to feel that that is your only option.
