| Medela - #1 Choice of Hospitals and Mothers This is the product guide. I did the choose the best product for you, using the info you provided. It has all the options listed to compare the 3-4 types of pumps listed.

Electric Medela pumps would be the Pump In Style (big black bag, been around since the mid 90's), Freestyle (new model, uses a rechargeable battery and hooks to their bras to be hands-free), and Lactina or Symphony (commercial ones you'd rent). You'd probably be looking at the PIS, which is meant to be used by one user, since milk can back up into the pump. There's also the Swing, which you'd want to skip, since it's a single pump, and not efficient enough to use at work. I have a Lansinoh Double Electric, which is good value, and probably cheapest on Amazon, and would say that's probably the best option for most women, Swing, and Playtex Embrace, which is probably best for women who've proven resistant to other pumps. I've also got way too much advice on this sort of thing, if she wants it. Good luck to her! |

I used the pump in style. I loved the symphony pump i used in the hospital so I rented one for a month to get my milk well established. I think the Freestyle, their newest, is supposed to be as good as the symphony but without the cost. (symphony is a hospital grade and costs about $1000, it is not intended for consumer purchase.) She should speak with the lacation consultant at the hospital or a private one if she has questions. Watch for LC just trying to sell you a pump, I had that problem but then found one who was great. She came to the house when my daughter got strong enough to nurse and made sure we were doing it correctly. She was a great resource later on when I had questions. Cost about $125 I think for a home visit, well worth it and insurance may cover if your doctor writes a rx. Oh, and major kudos to your DIL for wanting to provide the BEST nutrition for her baby.
