Two things from my SIL
About her town (not her town really, my brother is stationed there and she is tolerating it.)

The first is this on the local newspaper website.

Eudcation feature: Furture Farmers of America program trains students in hard work, responsibility | landyn, feature, america - Top Story - Clovis News Journal

In case they correct it and it messes up the link ---- the headline reads:

Eudcation feature: Furture Farmers of America program trains students in hard work, responsibility

The second was the news that the local schools are considering changing the A/B Honor Roll to the A/B/C Honor Roll. Wow, what a great idea to honor students for being average.

They'll be hiring all those C Honor Roll students at the local paper, I reckon.

Socialism just sneaks up on you, doesn't it?

tessa, I guess I'm not following you with the link about FFA. Are you thinking that one smells of socialism? The second one I can definitely see being a first cousin to the "let's make everything equal for everybody whether it's deserved or not!" mindset.

I grew up in a big FFA town, and I do know that those kids do work very hard and generally at things that are relevant to them. You won't be quarterback when you're 40, but you just might be raising cattle if you were an FFAer, kwim?

No, the first link is just a funny because Education and Future are spelled wrong.

Ah - thanks! I didn't even pay attention - just clicked the links and read the text of the article.

Clovis is the home of El Monterrey (sp? lol) Enchilada Sauce, which is very yummy stuff if you're ever in need of such a thing.

What on earth does that have to do with socialism? I know "socialist" is the buzz word right now in certain groups -- but could you please explain how it applies to this "honor" society change?
