Seems the bank is the dmv.....

I went to the bank to make a deposit in my account there of over 9 years. I was informed that my dl is expired and I need to provide my new one.

I asked why I needed a dl to make a deposit? She gave a well rehearsed standard answer that meant nothing. I asked again, as well as wondering aloud what they do when people don't have a dl? ( I know there are other forms of photo id, she was staunch on a dl )

I got the same standard answer. I told her that nothing had changed and I didn't realize I was attempting to make a deposit at the Department of Motor Vehicles. She finally got it and apologized.

I understand the requirement of an id when receiving money, but not when depositing, that was a new one to me. Anyone else? Do these people even think rationally when they come up with this and force employees to follow a new "policy" ?

I've never heard of that but that might be because I bank at a small local bank where my brother works. I'm in there often and I don't ever have to pull out ID because everyone knows me. I know I've made deposits for my mom at other banks and I've never been asked for ID. Only ID when I"ve taken money out of an account and the teller doesn't know me (but that's been years ago). Even if your dl is expired...it's ID....why do they care if it's expired?

Ridiculous! And forget about getting money out if your DL is one day expired. I guess your actual identity expires when your license does. That is unless you are a thief then of course nobody stops you from using someone else's i.d. even if they reported it stolen!

I think training of employees has gone by the wayside, in all areas of business.

I was in Target the other night. Usually I have very little problems there, and get very good customer service. Well, Saturday I was wanting to buy something, and it was out of stock. There was no pad of rainchecks hanging there, so I asked the cashier who check me out ,if I could get a rain check from her, or did I need to go to the C/S desk?? She said she could do it, and then proceeded to ask "do you have the item????" OMG, it was so ridiculous, I bust out laughing and said "if I had the item, I wouldn't need a rain check " She didn't get it. She then proceeded to tell me that they restock every night, implying that the item was actually on the shelf, or would be that night. I said "well, it's 8:30 on a Saturday Night......." She then goes on again about how I need to have the item to get the rain check, even saying that sometimes people want more than one of an item, so they have the item to get the raincheck I said "YOU HAVE NONE ON THE SHELF " OMG, she did NOT get it. I just laughed and told her "it's Ok, I'll get one from the customer service desk, you are just not grasping it"

I understand she needed the DCPI number, but, if she would have thought for so much as a second about what she was saying......... Good GRIEF!!!!

You know, I'm curious....if the bank was just using the DL as ID...why wouldn't an expired one work? It still has your name, address & picture...

At our bank, they've started checking id, however, you give them your id once and they scan it in, then they can see it when they pull up your account. It's actually my daughter's savings account, but since DH and I are joint owners and DD didn't have a DL at the time, they used mine.

Sometimes I think people don't have any common sense at all anymore!! A friend of mine went to the bank with a friend of hers whose husband had died -- they needed a copy of the will in order to open his lockbox. Well, the bank employee told them the will wasn't any good because the notary's commission had EXPIRED!! LOL!! They said she would have to find the notary and have the will notarized again.

OP, sounds like you were at the same bank my friend was!! What kind of idiots do they have working in banks? And these people handle OUR money?

Our Credit union requires ID for all transactions deposits or withdrawels, they all know us well there but they still ask because as they told us they never know if the perosn behind us is a secret shopper of sorts checking to be sure they are following protocol . As DH found out you cannot wear baseball hats or sunglasses in there either which kind of made no sense then it did when we sat down and realized most of the bank robberies have been by baseball cap sunglass wearing people.

Man Notary Commissions do expire on wills all the time, people dont update them every 2-3 years what an idiot, most states give them to you for 5 yrs and they renew them (Im a notary), man if the bank would have done that to me when my Dad died and I presented the Will that was notarized in 1998 and the Notary Commission had been long expired not to mention the person who notarized it also passed away, I would have been hauled off to jail for murder.

I do think a lot of training has gone by the wayside in customer service. I have been trying to get a medical bill corrected since February that has been paid in full by Medicare and myself and they keep billing me for the disallowed amount and have now sent me to collections again,I am going to let them take me to court again and pray I get the same judge as last time he said next time I come in front of him with this group he is going to award me a judgement.

No ocmmon sense, no courtesy, no customer service its all gone these days, when you have the rare gems I make sure their bosses know about it !

I am sure she was just following protocol. Just be thankful-my acct. was hacked last year, to the tune of about $9K. Thankfully, my bank was actually on top of it before I knew what happened. I now have to show my id, give a password, and tell them my access # before they will even look at me, including straight deposits. I used to work at a bank. On the back of the check, we would have to write some info-including expiration date of id. If it was expired, no go. Give the teller a break-she was probably just following the rules. These days, some ppl actually want to KEEP their jobs.

I have no doubt she was following some made up policy, the bank is changing to Chase. I've banked for years ( I am getting old, lol ) and have never had that happen. No one checks an id at an atm machine where you are getting money. I was making a deposit. I am sure I provided the dl when the account was opened for id and they have now decided to pay people to look at this and saw it had been expired (it is current btw)

The banks need to stick to banking, I also can't have change rolled. About a year ago, I was told to go to the grocery store across the street - that they have a machine. (Coinstar and it costs) I asked her then, if I could buy milk and eggs at the bank. I was very upbeat and funny and she just didn't get it. The grocery store wouldn't send me to a bank for groceries !

Ahh and then there was the time they broadcast my name and balance over the drive up speaker and I couldn't get them stopped. Telling me (and everyone around) all about how much I had and why I should move it to their wonderful "X" account. I went inside to speak to the branch manager about my concerns that my name and balance were broadcast, someone could follow me, they could track me through my license plate number, and my last name is not common, it would be easy to find me in the phone book for an address. All she could tell me was how the bank was providing me with better customer service ! Hardly !

Customer service is severely lacking in many areas and yes, I think the training is nil. Add to that mix the people who have a job, but don't really want to work with it being an imposition to put their cell phone down or change computer screens from ebay, etc.

For the past year, I have handled my deceased aunt's estate. Before I was named by the court to act, I deposited many of HER checks into HER account and was never questioned.

Red face

Sadly decent customer service all around has gone down the drains. To me its not too bad, but for people like my parents who are senior citizens who try to make phone calls and are told to press so many buttons and then the end result is either you can access information thru our website, my parents do not have a computer. Or better if all your questions have been answered you may now hang up???. Me and my friends or family members often talk about the days when you were sick and you just went to your family doctor. No appointment needed or you did not have to wait for the someone to call you back to tell if you can come to the doctor 3 months from now lol. I know thats not funny but honestly I wonder we have come so far with technology to make our lives easier yet it truly when it comes to basics what really has changed. I understand the bank must obey the rules and go by certain procedures, however a liscense whether expired or not has your face on it to prove your that person and your birthday as well. Not very nice op sorry you experienced a hard time. Catherine

Personally, I don't want anyone neing able to do anything with my account without an ID. I don't find it odd at all. As for the exp. date, I questioned that once, too. I was told that you must have a valid ID and an expired one is on valid. Whatever....
