Good News!

I am so tired of hearing bad news everywhere I go. I want to hear about your triumphs, small or giant. Tell us your good news!

I'll Start!

I've been bragging to my DH, family and friends about this so much I think they are all about to leave me. But I can't help it!
In the last 6 weeks I've lost 15 pounds and more than 2 pant sizes!!!! I am so dang proud of myself.
Yesterday at the gym, I was looking at my legs, they have muscle definition that I haven't seen for about 8 years!

Good for you, Theresa!!!

Well. . I've been substituting and I was worrying about what I was going to do this summer. But. . .I got a job and I start Monday. It's for a company that provides transportation for the disabled and elderly. . .perfect for me! The pay is the same (possibly more) than subbing. . .so I'll start now and not have to fret about what I'm going to do when school is out. Wooohooo! Plus they pay a $300 bonus after 90 days.

Theresa, that is wonderful! How did you do it? What are you doing exactly to get the legs toned?

Anyway, stressed out to the max right now, but good news is my dad is going to paint the outside of my house for me....and I am alive!! Hope to have more soon.

My good news is that after about 6 months of being laid off from his job my Sweetie started working extra board (on call part time) at a job he had done in the past and then was asked back fulltime. It's like starting from scratch but it beats unemployment.

I agree that its good news that its Friday! Other good news is that my oldest daughter just found out she got a 97 in her Surgical Tech class at college, and my youngest daughter had a good mid quarter report! The sun is shinning here in Maine, and in a few weeks, DH and I get to go on our Anniversary trip!

Nothing major but I'm so proud of my 9yo. She started playing softball this year (has had only 3 games so far) and at Wednesdays game, she caught a fly ball playing 3rd base position! The entire crowd went wild! (this is the child who is afraid of getting hit with the ball so waits for the ball to come to her, and then she usually misses it anyways unless it's a grounder....) I think she was more surprised than any of us!!! The look on her face after she caught the ball was priceless!

My great news came to me on Mother's day. My youngest DD called me to let me know that she is now back in the States from her 15 month deployment in Iraq. She'll be stationed in Georgia but 10 hrs away is a lot closer than she used to be Of course she now wants to volunteer to go to Afganistan because "Mom, those people NEED help" ARGGGGGGG!!

My good news is that my little baby turns 1 in 5 days. He was born 9 weeks premature and spent his first 6 weeks in the NICU and came home at 5 lbs, but he's happy and healthy and crawling EVERYWHERE, he's a fast little bugger!

Love this thread...

I'm still pg, and everything is looking good. DD has had a little boy that has bullied her mercilessly all year, and he FINALLY got into trouble and was in ISS for a couple of days. So she actually got into the car at the end of the day with a smile on her face. That was SO nice.

Lots of good news here after a long dry spell of years where I felt we were a crap magnet ;-)
One ds just made 1st class scout last night.
One ds and his bride are thriving 7 mos. into the marriage, we feared they'd chew each others' legs off once the honeymoon was over ;-)
Just got a 97% re-fi on our home enabling us to have quite a bit of cash to re-distribute within our budgets.
When getting the re-fi we got the appraisal that we can now take to the tax assessor's office and substantially lower our taxes.
The weather has been great here, got lots of yard and garden work done. Got to double the size of our suburban yard strawberry patch. Was able to put in a pumpkin patch (our dogs love pumpkin, eat it every day, weird pooches ;-)
Found a used mint condition privacy fence to embrace our entire yard for only $100!
I get to see my old best neighborhood friend this weekend. After having recently moved hours away this will be our first time together since the big move.
DH just sanctioned me spending several hundreds of dollars on hardscaping for the yard. This in itself is fabulous news, have never been able to spend $100 at a pop for this sorta stuff, now I can really spiff this place up.
All my children still at home (mostly teens) are healthy with none of the normal spring maladies buzzing them - yeeha!
DH has not had to travel for work for several weeks - wooho!
Our elderly dogs have amazed the vet with their current good health. They act like puppies, have shiny coats, and none of the health concerns usually seen in dogs of the same breeds and ages. ( I attribute it to salmon or duck kibble, and Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and MSM)
Did I mention how great the weather has been here? ;-)
We were able to actually get plaza level seats, close to the stage, for a Bonnie Raitt & Taj Mahal concert in Aug. DH and I usually do one concert a year, but usually end up in lousy seats. We Snoopy danced when we got the great seats.
And last, but certainly not least, MY LAUNDRY IS CAUGHT UP! Hasn't happened in years, it's the best news of all to me ;-)

Congrats to everyone celebrating things large or small.

I took apart the fountain I have in my front yard this morning, cleaned it and actually got it back together in one try. And it's working!!!

My daughter is graduating tomorrow from College with a 3.91 GPA. (Math and accounting major) She has a job lined up with an accounting firm in Pittsburgh. She doesn't start til November, but that gives her time to study for her CPA exam.

Now EVERYONE READING THIS - PLEASE PRAY FOR GOOD WEATHER TOMORROW
for her graduation day and party. (Its planned for outside, but I do have a plan B just in case)

I loved reading all these great posts. I am so happy to see we all have something to celebrate.

I have more good news. We won some sweet auction items at my DD's school silent auction. We won 2 vacation packages, laser teeth whitening, and my DD won lunch with her teacher. She's in preschool, so lunch with the teacher is a pretty cool thing. She big $18 on that! I gave her a limit of $20 to bid on whatever she wanted, that's what she picked. She even stayed below her limit!

2 more weeks left of school!! On the last day of school, we are going to drive up to my parents house and spend 2 weeks! 2 weeks in this wonderful, small resort town, relaxed with no agenda! I can't wait!

At our town's giant yard sale last week, I got all of this for $25.00:

Solid wood bookcase
Complete spirograph kit
Complete bake-a-bug kit (creepy crawler knock off)
2 tablecloths
4 Funky plates and matching bowls
8 Extra bowls
1 Big mixing bowl with a cute dragonfly motif
Copper plant markers
May apple plant
A canna rhizome
A morning glory plant
Butterfly garden kit - including the coupon for the caterpillars

I'm trying to be "green" by buying more things used -- especially toys, furniture and housewares. This was a lot of fun!

My bloodwork testing for any lingering cancer came back great! I haven't talked to the doctor yet for the results, but the nurse called and left a message that she showed him the results and he is very pleased!

The insulating guys finally showed up and were here for 3 days, foaming, spraying and installing the batts. We've been waiting forever. Next week the drywaller guys will be coming and be here for about 4-5 days. After that......it's off to Sherwin Williams to get many gallons of paint and then to pick out laminate flooring for us to install ourselves. I love installing Pergo laminate when we have at least 4 people working together. Then......window treatments....my favorite part.

Everyone laughs at us for sending our kids off to college and then doubling the size of our house. Oh well......it's now time for just US!
