Women over 35 should not be wearing mini skirts

I must be behind in the times, but I just heard this saying.
Do you agree or disagree with it? Should women over the age of 35 wear minis?

If you have the legs for it, I say go for it! I certainly don't...so I don't wear them. ~Lisa

I don't know....Tina Turner comes to mind. She wears minis very very well. She has great legs. Especially for her age.

Women over 35 should be able to wear whatever they want.

They've earned it.

(Stating this while hoping that the 35+ crowd, while welcome to wear whatever makes them happiest, also know when something is and isn't flattering...)

I can't wear one (don't have the legs for it and never have) but I have a friend who is 38 and has the body that most 20 year olds would DIE for (she's a fitness instructor). She looks awesome in a mini

They can wear whatever they want but most women over thirty five have learned that they (and most other people) look better when they don't show as much skin. I can't count the number of women I've seen that make the mistake of showing too much. If they had covered up a little instead of letting it all hang out, then I would have thought they had great figures but when they didn't, I saw all the flaws I wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

Personally, when I see a woman over thirty five running around in a mini-skirt, I both pity and lose respect for her because I think she's either trying to hold on to her fading youth or that's she's trying to get men to notice her. I don't really care if she wants to look pathetic but it strikes me as a little sad - especially since she's under the impression that she looks good and that she would have if she had simply lowered her skirt a few inches.

Thank goodness one of my best assets is my legs. I do wear mini skirts, but maybe not the kind yall are talking about. Mine are mostly 2-3 inches above my knees. Not the sexy kind that I think yall are talking about.

When I see a woman looking ridiculous dressing too young, I truly want to pull her aside and say "Look, this look just isn't working for you, move on..", but of course I never do. " Guess it just depends on the individual.

The same goes for the teenagers. If they would just buy 1 size larger (ok, in many cases, 2 sizes larger) they could still look good without camel toe, constantly tugging to get their shorts out of their *ss, bra straps showing, boobs flopping, etc.

I wonder how they get out of the house with their clothes painted on. Maybe they have the over 35 mothers in mini skirts? You don't have to look like a sleaze and show extra skin to look GOOD !

Sometimes when you get older, you just want to think of yourself as looking good and being desirable......even if you knew better at a younger age, it's just a hard pill to swallow when you get there. I think the trick is to find age-appropriate ways to look fantastic - it is possible, but not everyone seems to know how to do it!

I try to wear clothing that is comfortable and looks good. If I looked good in a mini, then I would wear it, but only if it fit comfortably and wasn't too short. I work at a local High School and I see so many young ladies wearing clothing that just looks bad. No other way to put it. If you are a size 14, you shouldn't be trying to wear the same clothing that someone who is a size 4 is wearing. I am getting really tired of seeing all the muffin tops strolling down the halls, and the low cut jeans with the undie strings hanging out...

I think it depends. . .if you have rocking legs like Tina Turner I don't see why you shouldn't show them off. I have friends that compete in body building (well mostly figure) who are over 35 and they can look amazing in an above the knee skirt. But you are right, there are some that just shouldn't be wearing them. When I'm lifting a lot and my legs are looking defined, I like to wear above the knee skirts (not really mini), just like the jean skirts from Old Navy. I see lots of the under 35 crowd who shouldn't be wearing them that do.

I guess we have different ideas of what a mini skirt is LOL What I think of as a mini skirt would be the same length as most shorts...a few inches above the knee. The ones that barely cover your backside shouldn't be on anyone! Regardless of age. What really gets me is that the skimpy most inappropriate clothes are made for juniors and boy do they wear them. Skirts that they can't sit down it, tops that let it all hang out. It's embarrassing...really. I"m a mom of a girl and I can't imagine letting my DD dress in those things. I know I wouldn't have gotten out of the door in those kind of duds

I think that it all depends on the person. I don't think that 35 is old enough to start dressing like an old lady. I hate to see "old ladies" wearing those teenage holey jeans...I think that looks ridiculous and pretty much looks ridiculous on anyone to tell the truth. I'm very opinionated about what I think looks stupid and what is acceptable and I'm not ever going to change that. Can't go the purple (or other hideous colored) hair or tattooes on any woman or man for that matter. The minute I see such, my opinion of that person automatically reaches a certain conclusion.. trashy!

some clothing styles are a privilege, not a right!
Spandex, micro-minis, cleavage baring back fat showing tops--are all privileges earned by having a rocking bod.
Even if you are comfortable in a style, if your choice in clothing makes everyone else uncomfortable then perhaps you should rethink your choice.

There are legs and there are legs and there are mini skirts and there are mini skirts.

Some go together and some don't, regardless of age. Micro-minis really belong on only a very few and they should be younger. If your gray hair is peeking from under your mini, then it's too short and you're too old.

Speaking as a person who often makes poor apparel choices, I have to admit that I have no self-concept when it comes to clothing and how it looks on me. I look in a mirror and think it looks ok, but if someone takes a photo, then I can look at it and say "My oh my, what was I thinking?" But until then I go traipsing around the town, looking like a misguided fashion reject. And I would bet there are other poor people like me walking amongst us. In fact I know there are. I can spot THEM a block away, it's only my own disasters that I can't see.

If you have the body for it, then go for it.

BUT, be aware that there are places to wear certain things and places NOT to wear certain things. A short mini skirt is great at a party or similar gathering. It is not cool to wear to church, on a job interview, to chaperone the 8th grade dance, etc.

And always remember to wear your undies and sit like a lady! Don't want to end up like Brittney Spears, showing your business off to the whole world.

Here's my take on the length of shirts/shorts: A skirt/shorts should NEVER be wider than they are long. If they're on a hanger, the width should be greater than the length, the exception being the larger plus sizes where if the length matched the width, they'd be floor length.

I don't think it has anything to do with age. If you have the body for it, go for it, no matter what age.
A person should wear whatever is comortable and makes them look fantastic.

What is considered mini? Is it anything above the knee or is it several inches above the knee? I'm 46 and I'll wear my skirts an inch or two above the know but no shorter than that -- that's just my comfort level.

Now in the summer, it's just as easy to pull on a skirt as it is a pair of shorts so I have a couple of shorter skirts (mid thigh) that I'll wear at home.

Only if it looks good but honestly no matter good you look or how fit you are there comes a time when a mini skirt should be less mini than it would have been say 20 or 30 years before.

I agree some of these girls are letting it all show & it looks horrid. I see more & more kids my dd's age at school when I drop her off wearing short shorts umm in my day we would have had our moms called if our rear end was hanging out of our shorts!!! And for that matter if our clevage was showing.
