I meant in my area. It's against the rules here. And my son worked as a bagger in CA for a couple of years at both of the companies he worked for it was against the rules. I did not mean to imply I was speaking for every single grocery store in the world but thanks for your confidence in me!

I would ask at the service desk if it's OK to tip and if it is I'd give them a couple bucks for help out with a huge order, especially if it's raining or snowing. But I'd ask first. It's awkward to be offered a tip and not be able to accept it and some people won't take no for an answer.

At the few stores here that offer the service, no tipping is allowed. Wegman's has signs posted at the curb stating that tips aren't accepted.

![]() Sort of a different kind of grocery carryout...but I absolutely do tip my PeaPod grocery delivery guy and the forms have a space to charge the tip to your bill. I give them $5-10. cj/

Commissary, yes. The baggers work for tips only, and I really appreciate the service. At the stores out in town, no tipping is allowed, per the signs hung in the store. A funny side note about tipping and the whole men/women tippers thing..... DH is a HUGE tipper. Once in NJ he tipped the guy pumping our gas. I told him, "it's the law here, they HAVE to pump your gas!!!!" Eh, DH tipped him anyway..... LOL.

I never use the service but unless I parked out in BFE and had a ton of groceries, no, I would not tip. Our King Soopers has home delivery and if I ever got that I would tip a couple bucks

I always take my own groceries, maybe if I was disabled in some form that it'd be difficult for me but since I'm not i take my own or my oldest goes with me and bags and puts them in the car for me.

You'd be amazed at the hourly rate some "bag boys/girls" receive. Taking your purchase out to your car is a customer service requirement for some stores--and tipping is a huge no-no! These people are just doing the job they were hired to do--and some get paid $10/hr or more to do it. Besides, my 9 yr. old sacks groceries better than most grown-ups so he typically does it. And both of my kids can push the buggy full of groceries out to the car. Heck, it's the least they can do since I'm feeding them (CONSTANTLY!!) LOL

This particular store I am referring to I know well as my job has me in there twice a week as it is one of the stores I service. There are a lot of older people who shop there and do need help with their groceries. I have many times seen the carryout kids get a tip, so I guess it is allowed. It's probably never more than $1 and may even be as low as 50 cents, but I guess that would definitely add up by the end of the day., thus increasing their hourly wage quite a bit. There is definitely no sign that says that tipping is not allowed, so I'm sure it is allowed.

The commisary is the only place we tip, and I would always be extremely generous. I rarely went to the commisary though. I was always amazed that many didn't tip. (referring to the commisaries only!) |

Tipping is allowed at the grocery stores I have worked at. You have to pull the car to the curb and are assisted with putting the groceries in the car. If you choose to tip that is wonderful but it is not required. Yes they are paid well wether you tip or not. |

I'm a commissary shopper, so yes, I do tip. I'm usually pretty happy with the bagging too but sometimes I am annoyed, like when they put ALL my produce in one bag...10lbs potatoes, 2 lbs onions, misc fruits and veggies ...that bag must have been 30 lbs! Yikes! Who bags a 10 lb BAG of potatoes anyway ?...lol Other than that I usually just hit Sam's club or I'm grabbing a few good deals somewhere and don't need carry-out service anyway, so no need to tip. |

The only place I can think of that someone helps you with your bags (unless you specifically ask for help) that I've been to is the commissary and we always tipped.

I live in Podunk where there's one grocery store. There are no cart corrals. If you have a big order, the bagger loads up the double decker cart, walks you out to the car, and loads it up. I never tip, although I see others tipping. There is not a sign regarding tipping. If the baggers had to rely on a tip (like wait staff does), I would tip.
