Even with a tight economy I DID THE RIGHT THING TODAY!

Well I went to Kmart and was purchasing 2 tents. The girl thought it was one big package and charged me for one. I could have gotten away with 100.00 in my pocket but I told her that there was 2. I just couldn't do with what I know some people would have found a score. So yes I am proud of myself!

Good going, a reason to be proud.

By the way, is that a toy or a real dog in your avatar?

congrats! Doing the right thing isn't always easy but the feeling it gives you is the reward I would (and have) done the same thing.

SO TRUE! I notice whenever I have negative thoughts of someone I stub my toe of something ot that nature. Almost like a wake up call. This always happens.

LOL. I always tell my daughter abut when I first had dealings with Mother Karma. I was about 9 or so.....there was a girl that lived right under us in the apt.s. I did not like her.

One day, I was on the little balcony, eating a tootsie pop(a grape one). I was hanging over the side and teasing her with it. Well, a few minutes later, I dropped it. It fell through this tiny hole in the wood beneath me, and landed on her porch. I had the nerve to knock on her door and ask her to retrieve it for me...lol. She laughed and shut the door.

Seems like a no brainer to me. Let the cashier know, pay, and go on your way without fanfare and pats on the back.

Although it's a no brainer to you do you know how many people I know that would have walked out the door with that money in their pocket?
I felt good about doing the right thing and I am not looking for fanfare just spreading something positive around for once instead of all the negative BS around us.

I hope it brings to light how good it feels to do the right thing.

I agree. I wouldn't have thought for one second about stealing the tent.

I had something similar happen around Christmas time. Cashier forgot to ring up an item, but put it in our bag. Back in the store I went.

It's so sad that honesty is a rare things these days. What we give such pats and praise for now, was not so long ago nothing considered basic common decency.

I don't remember who it was on this board, but it's better than the poster who bragged about beating the system on two different occasions because the clerk didn't see items in her cart. That was posted a few months ago, I believe.

You did the right thing. I agree with "what goes around comes around" and Karma. Its never wrong to do the right thing. You should feel good about yourself instead of feeling guilty about it later.

It does feel good to do the right thing. . .it would feel like stealing to me. . .well it would be stealing really. I had something similar happen once. My DD13 was about 2 and we were in Children's Place. She was in the stroller and I was pushing her around shopping (not paying a lot of attention to what she was doing). When I got out to the car and was folding up the stroller to put it in the trunk, there must have been 50 pairs of sunglasses in it! I took them right back, and was so embarrassed that I hadn't noticed her putting them in there. But the manager was really nice about it and basically thanked me because so many people would have just kept them. I was thinking. . .what would I even do with that many kid's sunglasses. . lol!

A pat on the back and LOTS of fanfare here. In a world full of dishonesty and little morals, I think a little recognition is wonderful. Thank you for being honest.

You should be proud of yourself for doing the right thing. If you have kids, you are being a terrific role model for them. That kind of reminds me of something that happened to me a few weeks ago at the grocery store. When I got to the checkout, I noticed that the clerk charged me $3.99 each for 2 containers of organic strawberries. I thought they were regular strawberries for $1.99 so I told the clerk that I didn't want them. Apparently, the bagger put the 2 containers of strawberries in the paper bag with my other groceries. When I saw them, I gave the strawberries back to the clerk and told him that they were put in my bag by mistake. OP, kudos to you for your honesty.

A post like this is a great reminder of what appropriate behavior is, which, unfortunately, is getting lost in our society. It's great to get stuff for free (or almost free) at stores, when that is the store's intention (coupons, double coupons, rebates, etc.) or because of store policies (price matching, reward for spotting pricing errors, etc.). It's another thing take advantage of a cashier's inexperience (extra merchandise in bags or missing an item). Way to go, OP! And thanks for reminding us what honesty is all about.
