Memorial Day Plans?

Just curious what people are doing to kick off the summer. I think I will be stripping a fence and planting more flowers. Maybe go to the beach for a walk depending on the weather.

I picked up a job at a little gift shop down at the beach. I will be working all weekend, and I am sure we will be busy! So, I plan on sleeping a bit too.

On Friday and Monday we will be working on our backyard. We are putting in a new paver patio and firepit. On Sunday, DH and I will go on a whole day motorcycle charity poker run. My aunt is staying with the kids and taking them to our neighborhood pool

We do Memorial Day fairly low-key. Just enjoy the day off from work and hang out locally. We don't like to deal with the traffic that the holiday weekend typically brings.

Our town puts on a parade and this will be the first year that we don't have a child walking in the parade - be it as a Cub/Boy Scout, Little League player, or band member....the parade ends with speechs from local dignitaries giving their praise and respect for our military, both past and present. We always have WW veterans in attendance....but some of them are getting pretty feeble. Last year, one of the speakers was a young lady that lost her leg in a roadside IED in Iraq....she was in tears as she spoke, as were many in the audience. The ceremony includes a military flyover and a 21-gun salute.

Because the weather is usually nice, we grill out summertime foods and eat on the deck in the evening.

I can't imagine doing nothing for Memorial Day or 4th of July.

We had a cookout at my sister's last night, a cookout at my house today and tomorrow, DH and I are going to our son's new house for another cookout!!

So I guess I'd say we were eating for our Memorial Day Plans. Monday we'll probably work in the yard if it doesn't rain. Tomorrow night we'll be watching the race from Charlotte NC on TV.

Wow, you have school on Monday. I'm a campus aid at my kids school and I think we would all cry if it was not a holiday. LOL We get out on June 18th so we have a ways to go. I can't wait for school to be over.

As for Memorial day we will go over to my dads for a bbq.

We don't do anything. I'll probably do laundry and DH and the boys will probably go fishing.

My cousin who is my same age died after a long battle with leukemia. I am going to the Bay Area (home for me as many of you know) for his services. He was a Sgt in the Sheriff's Dept and worked in the Dept for over 20 yrs so he will have a full police service. That is going to be my vacation I am leaving on Sunday to avoid the brunt of the traffic and I will be coming back on Friday. I left my husband with enough food and instructions (LOL) so he can survive without me.

Sad but I will take any reason to spend a moment with my Mommy and at times like this we really appreciate each other.

That's what I am doing.

My much older, big sister (ok, 17 months older) turns 50 soon, so her DH is having a picnic party tomorrow. Will be a small family affair, so it should be nice and relaxing. Have to finish alterations to DD's prom dress, and also wanted to plant some flowers and veggies.
