Has anyone had Uterine Artery Embolization for Fibroids?

I just found out that I have a large Fibroid tumor & my gyn suggested a hysterectomy.I have done some research & found that this is not the first line treatment anymore.I do not want to have a hysterectomy,so just wondering has anyone had any alternative treatments? TIA,Nancy

Sorry I really can't help you because I had a large fibroid and had a hysterectomy. I had already had all my children and didn't mind a hysterectomy. I had taken clomid trying to get pregnant and it gave me a higher chance to get ovarian cancer. I almost jumped a the chance of the hysterectomy so I would not have to worry about it. I was 44 at the time and I loved my hysterectomy. No more cramps, pads, mess, etc... I tell my friends that I wish it was an elective surgery for anyone done having children. lol I have also read that there are other things you can do besides a hysterectomy. Good luck.

I discussed embolization w/my old Gyn years ago when we found my fibroids, but it was so new at the time I was afraid to try it, so I chose the depo-shot to shrink it. Miraculously it is gone 6 yrs later. I just had endometrial embolization 2 weeks ago because of heavy bleeding every other week and so far so good. I had a neighbor who recently had the Uterine Artery Embolization done and she said it was a piece of cake and while she doesn't know the results fully yet since its been only about 3-4 weeks she is pretty sure it has worked.

I don't know your age, but I would go with the less-invasive option, go see another Gyn for a second opinion I think some are old fashioned and believe that hysterctomy is the only way to go.
