| Does anyone use the foodsaver (food vacuum)?
I received one last year as a gift, and feel I would use it a lot more if I knew where to get the rolls/bags at a good price. I usually get them at Walmart/Target for $10 a roll, but was wondering if I should be getting them somewhere else. Or if there are any knockoff brands that work. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Michelle |

You can wash and reuse the bags, that may help stretch your rolls a bit. My Food Saver died around XMAS time, and I do not plan to replace it. The vacuum works, but, the heat piece does not seal the bags.

I use mine A LOT! I buy alot of meats in bulk at a meat market and I don't reuse bags. I have bought from this site below. 11" vacuum sealer roll. Fits Tilia FoodSaver vacuum sealer., Tilia FoodSaver Bag at Goodman's Small Appliance & Housewares

We use ours a lot as well. It's great after berry picking to vacuum seal them and then freeze them. Kohls and Costco seem to have the best buy on the bags. I love mine, and would buy another one if mine died.

I used mine today for hamburger. I purchased a large amount and broke it down into sizes of bags that I'll use most often. I purchase my bags from Kohl's and use my 30% discount coupon for them. I've even found them on sale there and used the coupon to give me even more off! I'm well-stocked now and ready for garden time when sweet corn will go in the bags!

I use mine just about every day as well. One thing I do to cut down on the cost of the bags is to vacuum a lot of things in Mason/canning jars. I do ground beef in pint jars that equal 1 pound. I freeze veggies from the summer garden in pint jars as well since there are only 2 of us. I freeze fruits (blueberries, strawberries) in both pints and quarts for a variety to use in recipes. I freeze soups and chili usually in quart jars. I make my own chicken/turkey stock and freeze that in pint jars. I also dry a lot of my own herbs and fruits and vacuum seal those in jars as well (although I just keep most of those in the cabinet). You don't even need to use Mason jars if you don't have them. You can use any jars (like spaghetti sauce comes in) that have the little depression/pop up area in the center. As far as you're original question about buying bags. I try to buy them when I see them on sale on the FoodServer web site. If I'm out and I need them, I usually just go to Walmart. We don't have a Sam's or Costco around here. I never thought about trying Kohls, though. I'll have to check that out. What about Bed, Bath, and Beyond as well? They send out a lot of coupons, don't they? I've just never checked into them.

| If you have their credit card (have to use it to use Kohls coupons), they will send you a mailer when they have their extra 15%,20%, 30% off sale. If you get the coupon, you take it in store. You hardly ever get the coupon for 30% off though. I just come to the internet coupon board here (LWIF I think) and get the code and use it online. They have this sale a handful of times throughout the year

If I don't receive the 30% off in the mail, I use the codes online. If you can get free shipping code also, you might as well purchase online. Saves on gasoline! The question about how to freeze corn..........I blanch it and cut off the cob. We prefer it off the cob and it takes up less space in the freezer.
