Boys Communion gift

Grandson only one in family making his first communion. Girls are so easy to buy for but what do you give a boy? I have been giving him bonds since birth so that is out. Any help will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

First Communion usually takes place at age 7. (Second Grade)

My son just had his first communion 2 weeks ago and he received a big rosary and rosary holder, a little hand held rosary, a picture book for his first communion pictures and money.

I think a small religious item (like a bookmark with an appropriate Biblical saying) would be nice with a small amount of cash or a gift card.

I do like to give at least a token meaningful gift as well a little money..

Maybe a nice wooden carved crucifix to hang on the wall in his room...or some really nice rosary beads? ~Lisa

I don't think you can ever have enough savings bonds. I would go ahead and give him another one, and since kids don't realize how handy they will be in 10 plus years a small toy that he would enjoy now.

I don't understand why bonds would be considered out. You have started a wonderful tradition of saving for his future. A bond and a nice rosary would be appropriate. You could consider a larger denomination bond for this one time occasion.

I agree with 3togetready, a toy will be long forgotten, unused, broken, etc in no time.

Wink

A cross to wear around his neck, a small bible, a bond, cash but I would not go for any toy, making your first communion is very special in the Catholic religion and a toy I agree would not be the right choice. For us it was mainly the items I mentioned above.. Best wishes... Peace. Catherine

This is your Grandson so a special memory would be best. It isn't like a casual friend or distant relative. In that case I would go along with something that he could keep always. I have recently looked through some memory things with my daughter who is 20 and my son who is 24. All their grandparents are deceased and the pictures, prayer books, and other religious items given by their grandparents mean a great deal to them both.
So possibly a watch with an engraving (he wouldn't wear it much now, but later more), a good gold cross, a good rosary, a youth leather bible with a nice inscription even paying for special photos of the occasion.

All of those would be even more memorable than a bond. Bonds are better for other occasions, but after they are cashed in, there is nothing to remember. Since you are the grandmother I am suggesting something that he can keep for always.

My nephew received a really nice, masculine type box to keep all of his religious items stored. It is a simple wooden box that you can have engraved or have a little plaque engraved for the inside.
