Lawn Mowing.....how early???

How early is too early to mow your lawn?? We never get out there before 9 or 10, and usually it's in the early evening when it is cooler.

This morning I woke to my neighbor's lawn service at 7:30. I think that is just too early!!!

Ugh, I hate it when our next door neighbors mow their lawn at 8am on Saturdays! That is my only day off and I try to sleep in if I don't have a morning committment. I feel 9am is more reasonable but I can understand mowing as early as possible to beat the heat.

If I had my way no one would mow before 10am. If DH had his way everyone would be done mowing before 8am because that's when he gets home from work and goes to sleep (3rd shift). But as luck would have it all my neighbors usually mow between 8am-10am lol

Can't really complain though, they have every right to mow during that time. If we weren't so lazy, we probably would too. The heat and humidity is killer here later in the day.

There could be noise ordinance in your area with specific times.

I agree, 7:30 is too early. I can't sleep in - I guess from too many years of getting up, so I am ready then to mow, weedwack, edge, etc, etc whatever my yard needs. I do restrain myself until around 9 though, and it is better to beat the heat.

On the other extreme, when people shovel and it scrapes the concrete, that is just as irritating to me. An early morning after a snowfall is peaceful until I hear that sound............

ah, I agree on the snow but we are guilty of the "noise factor" on those days. DH clears the driveways and sidewalk before he leaves for work at 7:30 am but we aren't the only ones. He won't use the snow blower before 9:00 though

I just try to consider my neighbors that will be most effected by the noise. I have some college students that live behind me, so I don't usually mow until afternoon or later in the evening. I know I used to HATE waking up too early (before 11am) on the weekends before I had kiddos.

I would say 7:00am on weekdays and 8:00am on weekends. Around here most people are already leaving for work by around 7:00am or are retired people and are up early anyway.

Anytime before 10:00am is to early. Not sure where you all live but in Ohio the dew is still on the grass even in the summer time! Too early to mow otherwise you get clumps of grass..lol

My developement we arent to do anything before 9am, however nobody listens to any of it, lawn mowing starts from 715 and on, same with any construction it starts way to early, while I understand that its so much cooler out in early morning, I hear everything and then im up immediately, I love when one of them have a truck that
when driven in reverse has that beeping noise to wake the dead.

In this area, most people are VERY early mowers. It just gets too hot! We also have tons of other sounds to listen to early Garbage truck, parish street work, etc.

The few that sleep late(my teenager for one) get used to it and learn to block it. Most people are up early for work. I am off during the summer, except for a few hours a month on my merchandising job, but I am always up by 6:30 or so.

We live in a rural area, so all sorts of noises begin early! My DH is mowing our yard now. He went out about 9:00. He has to mow early because he leaves for work around noon.

I think if it were where the houses were close together, I'd say not before 9:00 a.m.

I think mowing at 7am is inconsiderate on the part of anyone whose neighbors could be awakened by it. We don't mow til at least 9, well I don't mow so when I said 'we' I meant dh or ds, lol

When we lived in a condo back east years ago, some jerk moved into the vacant unit next door and started sanding the wood floors at 6:30 on a Saturday morning - you know those industrial type sanders that make a very loud screeching sound. Ugh...so rude..

In our neighborhood, anything goes. I live on a federal highway so additional noise isn't a problem.

As far as early morning mowing, our grass would never be dry enough to mow before 11 or so.

I'll say it's rude to mow before 9 am if the houses are close together and you know your neighbors aren't up and about. Right now it gets too dark to mow by 9pm so I'm saying 9pm is the latest to be mowing at night.

Making noise with snow removal is a whole 'nother ball game. You HAVE to remove the snow in order to get out and get to work/school/what have you, there is no way around it. Granted, you can be considerate and use the snowblower as little as possible but snow removal isn't like mowing which can be dealyed.

8am is a good time but I usually encourage my husband to get out around 9am.
The longer you wait the more of your day is wasted.

I live in a city that was incorporated after we moved here. I remember when we first moved out here, the construction crews were not allowed to start before 8 AM, which for me is too early. Now the lawn service next door starts sometimes at 7:30 AM and it drives me crazy. I called the police and they informed me that the city does not have a noise ordinance. I'm going to have to start attending town meetings I guess, and see if I can get that changed. With my luck, they hold those at 7:30 AM too.. 8-)

You called the police because someone was mowing their lawn at 7:30?

I called to see if we had a noise ordinance. We don't. We should. I didn't call to have them come out, although it would have been tempting.

I see no reason that someone should be mowing grass beneath my bedroom window at that time of the morning. I'm up late and have trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep, so once I do, I prefer to stay that way for a reasonable length of time.

These people are the only ones on this block that do annoying things like that. They decided to landscape their backyard. There was heavy equipment trundling around out there starting at seven for several weeks. They put their yappy dog out in the back, and often leave it there, from 6 AM until they leave for work about 8 and it barks almost constantly. I suspect the only one in the house with any sense is their nanny and I guess she doesn't dare mention their little foibles to them.

I think our noise ordinance is 7:00am on weekdays and 8:00am on weekends. I actually think they can't work on Sundays at all (old blue laws) And yes, I've called the police when they were building the houses around us and started hauling and hammering and power equipment at 6:00am - very annoying when you have light sleepers!

For the lawn mowing, I think a considerate neighbor would not mow the law before 9am or after 9pm.
