Girls' Leggings - are they still made?

I'm pretty sure that a mod will move this to the shopping board, but I want to get some help, so I'm asking here until then.

I've adopted an orphanage in Herat, Afghanistan and have been having a blast buying girls' items to send care packages either directly from online sources or packing them up myself.

Now, it's my understanding that the Muslim religion and the culture of the region pretty much requires the girls to "cover up" when they are outside....long pants, long sleeves, etc.

So, long story short, I've been trying to find leggings and footless tights....but they are all capri length. Is that all they make anymore? I want ankle length.

What would those of you with little girls recommend that I send for these girls to wear? Would love your ideas...

CJ, My girls love leggings, and I actually bought them today! JC Penney is currently carrying only the capris length, as you noted.

I suggest you stop at a consignment/resale or Salvation Army store to find the lengths of a few years gone by.

What an awesome undertaking!

See? You're a good egg, afterall!

LOL...was there EVER any question? Not in my mind!

The commander of the project has a blog here: Herat's Girls Orphanage

Unfortunately, they've been out of communication for awhile.

Another place to try is Kohls - I think that's where I got my DDs last ones, but it's been a few months....

Do you think that capri length is for summer and that the ankle will come back in the fall/winter??

Actually, I DO think that! I'm thinking that if you put in a call to a girls' specialty store like Justice/Limited Too, and ask when/if they'll be selling full sized leggings again, they might have an answer. (Too expensive to shop there, unless at clearance prices and w/coupons). But they'd probably know.

Thanks for the info.

Worth looking into!

Ragsland: Jefferies Socks Lacy Footloose Tights
www.devalifewear.com: Footloose Tights (no feet)
Children's Tights

Somewhere that sells Danskin or Capezio dancewear will probably have them as well....
I particularly like these: Tie-Dye Leggings - Balera - Dancewear Solutions

Cj they sell these at my target store here, also as marilynk pointed out just about any place that sells Danskin ( thats what target sells ) will carry the ankle length leggins.... What a wonder undertaking you are doing. I'm sure the little girls are thrilled to receive their packages.

P.s if you still can't find them contact a local dance studio for girls, they either sell them off the wall rack or can perhaps order them for you.

I just did a s earch and penguinkidswear.com sells them wholesale size 4 - 6x 12 pair for 36 dollars. They are 3 dollars each, If you type in girls long leggings there are many sites that will come up.

Thanks for the various pointers! What an idiot I am to never have googled it...when I constantly google everything else. I will add another twist and say that I try to do this on the very cheap. And as all good MCers, I'm not only look for cheap but look for quality cheaply. Icansavedaily, do you have any experience with the quality of items from the penguinkidswear place?

One of the problems that I'm having is that the description often doesn't say capri length, even though they are. I thought I found them at kohls.com and ordered a bunch of pairs, they arrived yesterday - all capri length!

Does anyone have any other suggestions for girls items that might be culturally appropriate (and inexpensive)?

I was wondering about little craft items - like those teeny little packages of sequins you get at A.C. Moore ... all girls that I know at all ages love sequins! If you threw in some school glue, they could decorate some of their belongings. My girls glue sequins on EVERYTHING...little boxes for jewelry, little cards they make for each other, their dolls' clothes...

I also think the old polly pocket toys are so good - you can buy a 4 inch polly pocket "house" that opens up to a teeny travel-sized doll house with little people to play. My kids love these on trips, because they're so small and discrete, too. I've bought them in lots on eBay, and usually only spend a few dollars per little box. (ETA - I just did an ebay search - you have to write "vintage polly pockets" and they are going for slightly more than I paid 2 years ago...)

All sorts of hair ties, ribbons, beads...

Sorry I have never dealt with that company beforejust found it in a search. I initially found it under wholesale clothing. I would assume that you can check on it thru the BBB online. (better business bureau). But with my luck the assume part would bite me in the patoot.

Thanks, dannic. I used that code on two orders that I just placed (seemed fine to use more than once) - but not on leggings. I got a pair of girls mary jane shoes for $5.49 and a pair of flannel pants and two pairs of slippers for $4.87. I had them shipped to the store to save a little on shipping per order. I just might go back and place another order.

CJ,
From what a friend of mine was in that area(he was in Iraq, close to the border), these children are incredibly appreciative of anything they get.
I sent him stuff that he could carry in his pockets to give out (he was near a school that they visited often)--Blow pops, Tootsi pops, Twizzlers, the mini MM tubes (although he later said that he kept those for himself! ). Small stuffed animals (an excess of teenie beanies from McDonalds), word search or puzzle books, coloring books, stickers; all went over well.
