| HERE YA GO is now the new THANK YOU???
I've noticed a lot lately when I am shopping that when I pay for my purchase and get my receipt, instead of the cashier saying "thank you" to me, they say "here ya go" as they hand me my receipt. Anyone else noticed this???

You have hit a hot point issue ! Lack of customer service.......I had found myself thanking the cashier and have tried to curb it. While I don't mind being polite, it IS on their part to thank the customer. At least your cashier wasn't busy talking on a cell phone ! Ok, off your topic, but here is my peeve when I am the customer. I do not care to have "you guys" inserted at the beginning, middle, or end of every sentence at a nice restaurant. It's a small thing, but I am not a guy. Nor do we have to be called that frequently. I prefer not at all, and even once would be acceptable, however, I don't need to be peppered with it. dl |

Sometimes I say "you're welcome" as they hand me the receipt and say absolutely NOTHING!!! You would think in this bad of an economy people would be more wanting to keep a customer happy. I can honestly say Wal-mart has improved in that area. Now, if they could just clean up their stores.......

Yes, I have noticed this...In fact, yesterday this happened to the guy in front of me...The cashier didn't thank him and the guy got all mad and said "THANK YOU! COME AGAIN!" really loudly. Yikes. I agree that the customer service these days stinks. It has hit a new low. Most (not all) act like they are doing you a favor to ring you up and wait on you. ~Lisa |

Yep, this one bothers me, too. Probably because I've had several retail jobs in my life and always thanked the customer. Now, they hand me my receipt and say "have a nice day" or nothing at all. The other day I was in Target and the cashier handed my receipt to me and just looked at me (as if he had just done something wonderful for me). I just looked back. Awkward silence. Crickets chirping. Finally, he said something, I think it was "have a nice day" but it wasn't "thank you". I wonder if they don't train employees to thank the customer anymore or if it's just the employee choosing not to say it.

Yesterday, while in Sears, I was looking thru some men's pants, and I kept hearing a very LOUD "HELLLOOOOO!!!!" sprinkled with "no wonder there sales are down.....you can't get anyone to wait on you!!! HELLLOOOOO!!" Finally someone came over to ring this man up. As I walked thru the store, I passed by 3 stations with no cashiers anywhere near. I did get rung up where this man was yelling, and the girl had just walked off and didn't tell anyone. Pathetic.

I agree with you OP and I have another pet peeve. How about "not a problem" I get that one a lot when we are eating out and a waiter brings something to the table or fills my drink, I say "thank you" and I get back "not a problem" instead of "your're welcome" that may be picky of me but it does get to me lol

Has anyone else also noticed that besides cashier's not saying "thank you" in grocery stores and in my local k-mart they are also looking at you to bag your own stuff? I always bag my own, so it's not a big deal to me however, I have heard people complaining to cashiers about this. Last night at a&p the woman in front of me had an overflowing cart of stuff and just stood there asking the cashier when he was going to stop ringing stuff up and start bagging her stuff and he replied "Oh I thought you were going to do it" .

![]() I've seen people yap their damn heads off on the phone while they could have been bagging a 1/2 a cart load. I end up wanting to take the phone of their hands and stomp on it, LOL! I could probably type a dozen different scenarios where customers are excessively rude. The door swings both ways. Yes, stores need our business, but unless you're going to raise your own cows and chickens, grow your own produce, you need the stores, too. 50-50 give and take is what it SHOULD be, but that would make sense. ![]() For me, if a cashier just smiles and says something nice, like "Take care" or "have a nice day" or "hope to see you again!" is fine with me. Obviously, *I* needed to be at that place and buy something just as much as they need the income. I don't think that "Here ya go!" is appropriate at all. ETA - ishop2much, this wasn't directed at YOU, just the topic. Since I quoted you, I didn't want you to think the "tongue-in-cheekiness" was at you, hehe.

I prefer to bag my own groceries. That way, when the cantaloupe ends up on top of the hamburger rolls, smashing them into pancakes, I have only myself to blame. I'm faster than most of the baggers I've seen and I bag my stuff according to where it goes in my pantry or freezer.

I agree that cust. service is dead. I worked for a company where cust. service was very important. I can't believe that businesses don't seem to care about it any more. What bugs me the most is people not saying I'm sorry. Those two words can defuse most situations, but employees must be taught to never say it. Thank you is a close second. I really hate when they are on their cell phone or talking to a co-worker (not about work) and never say hello or thank you. |

We have a local grocery store that you are required to bag your own groceries. The prices are drastically lower than Albertsons and Fred Meyer, but the customer service is beyond terrible. The produce looks like it was ripe about 3 days ago, the cashiers lack basic manners, and I'm not sure any employee there goes through any sort of customer service training. I keep shopping there (except for my produce and meat) because the prices are so low.

At Giant Eagle ,thankyou = "You now have 10 cents in fuelperks"! At Dollar General ,thankyou = "Would you like to donate (whatever change you have) to such and such charity ?" (Like I would be shopping at a Dollar store if I had change to spare! )At Walmart thankyou = "Sorry about that." (Because they always mess up my coupon deductions. ).At most other stores thankyou= the sound of the cash register ringing up the next customer. Doesn't really bother me though . |

I got a "Thank you and thanks for bagging" at Wegmans today!! Yippee! I Love Wegmans

Yes, I'm right there with all of you. I have totally noticed the lack of 'thank you' or even being acknowledged at all at times. Gets to me some days too. This is probably another thread (don't mean to hijack your thread OP), but WHAT is wrong with manners in general? From adults mostly. I always say 'excuse me' in the stores even when it isn't my fault (for instance when someone is on the wrong side with their cart and they about hit me). People just stare past you like you are at fault for something, or better yet they have an attitude. Most never say 'sorry' or 'oh excuse me', etc. Drives me crazy. That is my #1 pet peeve right now, lol. |
