Anyone else with just an antenna?

I used to get at least 14 tv channels with my antenna even living at the base of the mountain. Now since the switchover, I get 4. I am going into withdrawl-LOL! I am going to try and get a new antenna with the stipulation that I can take it back as I don't want to get stuck with it and still not get anything more. From the horror stories I am hearing, I am thinking I might not get anymore. Cable here is $40 a month, which I can't afford. I have slow dial up, so I can't watch tv on the computer either. Our antenna is about 15 years old, so I am hoping it might help, and will keep my fingers crossed. Anyone else having trouble? The fcc says even the 4 channels I do have come in weak with the converter box-ugh!

Have you tried connecting a converter box yet?

I have cable myself, but I know several people who have used the boxes and they now receive more channels and the clarity of the picture is much improved as well.

If you haven't tried a box yet, I would do so before purchasing a new antenna.

Our newspaper said to try relocating the t v to another part of the room or house and that the t v stations are in the process of building stronger antennas for their program reception.

I had a $40 coupon for a box. We have satellite, but I decided not to pay the monthly fee for our TV in the basement that I use when I run on my treadmill. I get four channels on the tv in the basement with the new box. Only the four Networks.

Have you thought of just renting a converter box? I don't how how much it costs or if all cable companies offer that option but some offered to rent just the box so people could get the reception. You wouldn't be able to get cable through it but it gets you back to where you were before the change.

We use the old indoor rabbit ears along with a signal booster. Before the conversion we got 7 channels. Now we get 10.The channels now come in without any signal losses .A few channels are still waiting for approval to increase their signal.I'm pretty much satisfied with the channels we get.Having cable with 100 channels is too mind boggling for me trying to decide which channel to watch.

Yes I have two converter boxes hooked up, as I have two tv's. One in the bedroom. Have done the scanning several times. Both are facing in different directions, but this weekend, we plan to try and turn them in other directions to see if we can get something else. Alot of people are disappointed as they said we would get more, not less channels. Before I got 14, and sometimes 16 would come in on a good clear day. Like I said, now I get 4 with the converter box. My neighbor also has two large trees to the right which is close to the area I am supposed to point the antenna. I had already talked to him two years ago about taking the one down, as it is rotten and a branch fell on a friend's car(that came to visit us), while he was driving up the driveway. He won't take either down, nor let us, so that is one possible hindrance. Also our town is in a valley and we are surrounded by mountains. I am at the base of the north mountain, but am sitting on a bank which is a little higher than my neighbors down below. Anyhow, going to try moving the tv's, then try and move an antenna too and go from there. Hoping for better. Guess we shall see!

You probably need a better antennae and they have to point in a certain direction towards your TV towers. If you're like you say at the bottom of a mountain, you'll be lucky to get more channels.

My DH put two antennaes up for his mother. You can go online thru the antennae website and it will give you the direction of the towers of your local TV stations near you. (you put in your zip code). Then you set your antennae up according to that. She's getting about 20 stations now as opposed to the three or four she was getting.

Where I'm at in SoCal, before the conversion, we got maybe 7 or so channels (2 shopping type, 2 non-English, 3 network). After conversion we got 0,zero,nada! Bought a smart antenna and we now have 3: cbs, abc, and a Spanish channel (which seems entertaining and my daughter tunes in to occasionally; who knows, maybe I'll learn the language once and for all).

Thank goodness for hulu - since 24 is pretty much the only show I watch, so I gots mah tv. Cbs news is fine for me, if I need/want to tune in.

The kids feel for ya - they've managed without any snivelling but they also have access to decent internet, which gives them access to the most recent version of anime.

Yes, but the only converter I could find at the time I bought mine was $80.

The channels come in crystal clear. I had a lot of fuzzy channels before.

I have a regualr antenna and a converter box. I used to get 5 channels on a good day, now I get 8 channels all the time and more on good days.

I'm considering getting a digital antenna to see if I could get in even more channels but I think I'm going to wait until the end of the summer since I don't watch as much in nice weather.

My reception is bright and clear most of the time but when it's bad, it's pretty funny. THe picture will scramble and the sound will sound like the people are stuttering. No more fuzz or snow.

I had read this article not too long ago that if someone states that you need a digital antenna, that it is really no different from a regular one and that they just put it on the box and will charge you more. I don't know if this is really true, as I am not up on this stuff. Hubby is going to start moving the antenna around tonight. I have found a place online that sells an antenna that goes to 120 miles and you can return for a full refund, so if we don't get anywhere by moving this one around, then that will be my last resort. Thanks for all the replies!
